Portraits for graduating seniors at Southwestern Oklahoma State University will be taken Thursday and Friday, January 30-31, in the Bonny Board Room of the Memorial Student Center on the Weatherford campus.

There is no cost to students for the photo session, but if desired, photo sets can be purchased from the photography studio. Students must be graduating seniors from fall 2019, spring 2020 or summer 2020.

Portraits will be published in the Graduate Record, the SWOSU student yearbook that is made available to graduating seniors.

Loran Lewis, advisor for the Graduate Record, said students are not required to wear formal dress, but they should wear appropriate attire with photos being published for prosperity in the Graduate Record. The photos can also be used for professional and résumé purposes.

Photographers will be available from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on January 30 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on January 31.

Anyone who is unable to attend the photo shoot may also submit a quality photo, preferably with a neutral background, by February 21 to the Graduate Record.

Congratulations, Dr. Wiggen!

Dr. Todd Wiggen, assistant professor in Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s Everett Dobson School of Business and Technology in Weatherford, was recently awarded the Best-in-Track paper for the Innovative Teaching/Management Education track at the Southern Management Association (SMA) annual conference held in Norfolk (VA).

Wiggen and co-author Chantal van Esch, assistant professor at California Polytechnic University, won the award for their paper titled “Can your students save the world? Utilizing Pandemic, a cooperative board game, to teach management.”
The SMA is an affiliate of the Academy of Management. Its primary mission is to advance the research, teaching, learning and practice of management. SMA membership consists of over 1,000 management professors, doctoral students, and professionals representing more than 200 colleges, universities and business firms in 43 states and several foreign countries.

The winning paper focused on the use of a board game to facilitate the teaching of management, organizational behavior, and leadership in a classroom setting. The game assists students to learn how to reflect and put into practice leadership, teamwork, goal setting, decision-making and ethical theories. Wiggen has used the game in both graduate and undergraduate courses as an experiential learning exercise.

Jonna Myers has been named director of graduate programs for Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s Everett Dobson School of Business and Technology (Dobson SBT) in Weatherford.

In her new role as graduate director, Myers will focus on recruitment of new students as well as advising current students who are pursuing master’s degrees in business. Dobson SBT currently offers two graduate degrees: Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Science in Management.

“Interest in the online MBA has caused a recent surge of enrollment,” Myers said. “An online MBA is available from SWOSU through 8-week or 16-week courses, allowing students to tailor their courses around their own schedules. For example, a person can avoid taking classes during a certain time of the year that is particularly busy for them and then jump back in with an 8-week course. This type of scheduling makes it possible to earn the MBA in a year.”

New Ag Business Program Starting this Fall at SWOSU The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education have approved a program modification designed to enable Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) in Weatherford to offer a Bachelor’s in Business Administration with an Agricultural Business degree option.
