I like this shot from our recent Columbia Chorale Wenatchee concert for how it shows the wide range of ages we now have. Age, gender, ethnicity, politics, religion- all our differences fade in the shared joy of making beautiful music together! Who can you name here?
Beau Soir was a wonderful Concert. Here are a few pictures from the evening.
What a “beautiful evening” Saturday night! Thanks to Dan Jackson for inspiring us, all the singers for working so hard to master some challenging music, and mostly our audience for coming to hear us! See you next Fall. More pictures at wenatcheecolumbiachorale.org photos/video page

“Peze Kafé is a song found in the rich Haitian treasure of folk music. It tells of a young boy who is sent to the market with coffee for sale. Stopped by police on the way, he loses the coffee. What will he tell his mother when he returns home?
The Columbia Chorale will perform this piece in Haitian Creole, with percussion accompaniment by Wenatchee High School students. It’s a blast to sing, and will knock your socks off!

“LET’S DRINK!
Love, among the chalices, will get hotter kisses! Let’s drink to love’s sweet shivers…Let’s take our pleasure till a new day dawns”
Can you name the Opera and the Composer of this song?
Who says Opera is stuffy and boring? This flirtatious drinking song features a romantic banter between Violetta, a courtesan secretly suffering from tuberculosis, and Alfredo, an aspiring lover. Often seen as the inspiration for the movie Moulan Rouge, this spicy, funny, tragic story is one of Opera’s most famous and beloved.
Matt Lodge and Stephanie Etherington, two of Chorale’s finest young voices (and both former students of Director Dan Jackson) perform the characters with incredible skill! Backed by the Chorale chorus, this song is pure fun!
Don’t miss it March 23, 7 PM at Wenatchee High School. Tickets at Numerica PAC (509)665-9096

A “beautiful evening” in the Shenandoah Valley
“Beau Soir” concert lyric of the week
While many think this haunting American folk song is about a river, it actually refers to the valley through which the river “the wide Missouri” flows. Early versions reference Shenandoah, the chief the Oneida Iroquoi people who lived there. Legend has it a trader was in love with his daughter and tried for 7 years to take her away, but her father refused. Chief Shenandoah fought against the British in the Revolutionary War and died in 1816 at the age of 110. The Columbia Chorale will perform this song as our opening number in “surround sound” encircling the Wenatchee HS auditorium as waves of sound bounce across the audience. Hear us March 23, 7 PM. Tickets through the Numerica PAC and at the door.
Oh, Shenandoah, I long to see you,
And hear your rolling river
Oh, Shenandoah, I long to see you,
Away, I’m bound away, across the wide Missouri.
Oh Shenandoah, I love your daughter
Away, you rolling river
For her I’d cross the roaming water
Away, I’m bound away, across the wide Missouri
Tis seven long years since last I see you
And hear your rolling river
Tis seven long years since last I see you
Away, I’m bound away, across the wide Missouri
WHAT'S THE THEME OF YOUR NEXT CONCERT?
Well, that's a great question.
"Beau Soir" means beautiful evening, and it will be a evening of gorgeous choral music picked by conductor Dan Jackson to represent the depth, breadth and variety of musical styles and sounds that voices can produce.
You'll hear songs about - rivers, lakes and coffee, prayers and romance, picnics and media technology. You'll hear songs in Spanish, Swahili and Haitian (in addition to English) There will be spirituals and folks songs and madrigals, opera and movies. There will also be guest performances from local High School choral groups. Variety? Yes! Boring? NO!! Fun? Absolutely! Dont miss it.
