Congratulations to two West Monroe facilities for being recognized in "Louisiana Living" magazine as part of their La Nouvelle Louisiane section - new and noteworthy people and places in Louisiana.
West Monroe Sports & Events was named as "Best Recreational Spot." The 110,000 square foot facility features eight basketball courts that can be converted to volleyball or pickleball courts, plus multipurpose rooms, flexible meeting and event spaces and an open mezzanine for spectators. The facility is located at 875 Constitution Drive.
Courtyard on Cotton art gallery in Downtown West Monroe was named as a runner-up for "Best Outdoor Space" for their New Orleans-inspired grass courtyard surrounded by antique brick walls and a fleur-de-lis wrought-iron gated fence. Guests can follow the paved walkway through a vine-laced arbor to reach the interior gallery that showcases the work of both emerging and established artists.

The City of West Monroe and West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce are proud to continue to recognize businesses as part of the community pride campaign known as “Take West Monroe to the Next Level.”
The most recent recipient of the "Next Level" award is Montgomery Poultry and Egg Co., a locally-owned wholesale distributor of poultry including chicken, turkey and eggs. The business serves central and north Louisiana as well as southern Arkansas, supplying restaurants, cafeterias, churches and more with fresh food.
A beautiful mural was recently added to the side of Montgomery Poultry by local artist Daniel Myers. You can view this artwork at 800 Wood Street.
HiSET Bootcamp courses will be offered at the West Monroe Community Center provided by Louisiana Delta Community College. The HiSET is the High Schoo. Equivalency Test for those who did not graduate high school.
Registration and pre-testing will take place by appointment only. Please refer to the flyer for contact information and how to register for the bootcamp.

Senator Cassidy spoke at a breakfast this morning in Monroe and then served as the keynote speaker for the Ouachita Green awards banquet held at the West Ouachita Senior Center
Congratulations to all the award winners! A special congratulations goes to Jack and Betty Armstrong for being named as the West Monroe Community Champions. This couple is active in all community events and are constantly volunteering. You can regularly find them running, walking or paddling at many of our parks!
Another congratulations goes to Obe Brown for earning the Youth Achievement Award. Obe is a 14-year-old freshman at West Monroe High School and a Ouachita Green intern. He is an active volunteer, and we thank him for his service to the community!
City workers just completed construction of a new pavilion at the Highland Park Wetland Trails, made possible by a grant from Louisiana Economic Development's Louisiana Development Ready Program. The completed pavilion can be found near the park's Otis Street entrance. An additional pavilion will be constructed on the other side of the park in a few weeks. The pavilion provides park users a shaded place to rest and a picnic table.

Mayor Staci Mitchell was honored to provide a welcome to the agents and is actively involved as a volunteer with Ouachita 4-H. West Monroe Parks & Recreation will be profiling each of the parks located within the city limits. This week, the department is profiling the Highland Park Wetland Trails located just off N. 7th Street, formerly used as a golf course.
The park offers trails for walking, running or bicycling as well as outdoor fitness equipment. Look for two pavilions to be constructed in the near future! Follow West Monroe Parks & Recreation for more information on other parks and recreation sites in the city.
