The Rotary Club of West Des Moines was honored to host the Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States, Mrs. Oksana Markarova, and a delegation of 10 distinguished guests from the Embassy of Ukraine in the United States and the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF), joined by GMF's President Heather Conley. The visit is part of GMF's "Whistle stops for Ukraine" tour, which is sponsored by the Howard G Buffett foundation.

Rotary Club of West Des Moines: Celebrating Our Achievements and Looking Forward to our 99th Year!

As we wrap up an incredible year, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to our outgoing club president, John Rodgers, for his inspirational leadership, dedication, and humor. We also warmly welcome our incoming president, Kenn Yu, and look forward to an exciting new chapter under his guidance!

This past year has been remarkable for our club! Here's a look at some of the impactful projects and initiatives we’ve undertaken:

- Provided bicycles to children thru our annual bike project.

- Hosted an incredible fund raising auction to support our foundations projects.

- Engaged in multiple Tree Planting events and Adopt-a-Highway Clean-Ups to beautify our community.

- Provided winter coats, hats, and gloves to veterans through our grant program.

- Hosted the Rotary 4-Way Test speech contest.

- Continued our long term service projects and friendships with Xicotepec, Mexico.

- Volunteered in service projects with CFUM, St. Vincent de Paul, Lutheran Services of Iowa, Wilkie House, and the Youth Justice Initiative (YJI)

- Assisted with Greenfield Tornado recovery efforts.

- Honored veterans during Memorial Day by placing flags in memoriam.

- Welcomed inspiring speakers to our weekly meetings.

- Fostered youth Rotary engagement through Interact and RYLA.

- Granted college scholarships to deserving students.

- Participated in Salvation Army Bell Ringing.

- Enjoyed a special behind-the-scenes tour of the Zoo.

- Celebrated member accomplishments including recognitions for service, election to local government, and business success

- Welcomed 3 new members to our Rotary family!

We couldn’t be more proud of the dedication and hard work of our members. As we reflect on these accomplishments, we’re also thrilled about what’s to come in the next year. Stay tuned for more exciting projects and opportunities to make a difference!

The Rotary Club of West Des Moines volunteered with the Youth Justice Initiative (YJI). Darla, Charity, Bob, and John picked of full bucket of beans and laid mulch for a potato patch. THANK YOU, Darla, Charity, and Bob.

The Rotary Club of West Des Moines participated in a service project at Willkie House. Abby Miesner, Charity Baird, Rhea Parekh, and John Rodgers teamed-up for yard work, hauling and laying mulch, organizing rooms with clothing and supplies, and cleaning the inside of one of the house's vans.

As part of Resthaven Cemetery's annual Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony our Rotarian of West Des Moines, Cheryl Tancretti, received special recognition for her patriotism; an American Flag! Cheryl is pictured here with fellow Rotarian of West Des Moines, Bob Goldhammer.

The Rotary Club of West Des Moines got outside with Trees Forever to help bring some new foliage to the community. The small trees we planted today will provide shade to many generations to come.
