Armstrong School's second grade teacher, Stephanie Peterson, was able to purchase games and materials for her classroom with funding from a WEF grant.
These games have been integrated into her Social Students Civics and Identity units and the Grade 2 SEL curriculum this year. The use of pictures, colors and simple words has given all students access to these activities, regardless of academic or language levels. These games have removed any barriers and have given all students independent practice in a fun way. New friendships have developed, and interesting questions are being asked among the partnerships and groups. The students are fully engaged and, most times, because they're having fun they don't even recognize that they're practicing and learning!

Biology and AP Biology Instructor, Jo-Ann Purdy has brought cutting-edge technology to WHS. She has taken her students to a deeper level in life science by getting funding for mini PCR thermocyclers to be used at their desktops. This will allow students to do PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) where they can amplify target genes and make determinations like: Has a resistant gene spread to new bacteria? Has my food been genetically modified? Do I have the genes to taste a compound in my food? Does my grandmother have Covid?
Thanks to the generous support of the Westborough Community, WEF can fund cutting-edge technologies, like this one, to be taught in WPS.
