We really appreciate testimonials from former students. Dani Koerner attended Carroll Lutheran School briefly, but the impact has lasted with her for years. Here is what she has to say about CLS.

Dani attended Carroll Lutheran School with her two brothers from 3rd-6th grade. During that time, she and her family were embraced by the staff and faculty at CLS without skipping a beat. She remembers all the fun events and the close bonds she created that lasted for years. The friendships she made throughout her short time at CLS are ones she keeps alive and is grateful for each day. There is still a community for her today.

She recently graduated from Towson University in 2024. She is reflecting on all that has gotten her to where she is. CLS not only created an environment where she felt safe and focused but also where she felt endlessly supported. Dani specifically had a difficult time in math, but thanks to the teachers collaborating with her parents to increase her understanding and confidence, she excelled. At the age of 22, she can confidently do her times tables. CLS challenged her in the best ways to grow academically.

One phrase she learned from a teacher in the building of CLS was "attend to precision." She still chants this in her head to get her through life's most stressful and overwhelming moments.

She encapsulates her experience at CLS in the words community, love, faith, and, comfort. Dani states, "This is not just a school that ensures your child can write their name on a piece of paper and perform simple tasks. This school creates real bonds with students and helps them to learn what makes each child special and how they grow to their highest potential. At CLS your child is not just another seat filler. You become family."

Carroll Lutheran School gives back! This past school year, Mrs. Edwards, ELA teacher, chose Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland as the recipient of a fundraiser at the school. Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland expressed their deepest gratitude in a note to the school. As written in the note, "This is so much more than a donation - it is a lifeline, nutritious meal, and a smile for many that goes beyond the walls of your school and into the homes of many grateful seniors. It is a testament to the value of community and compassion that you instill in your students - and for that we are thankful."

CLS gives back to many organizations each year through fundraising and chapel donations.

Mrs. Gilbart, principal at Carroll Lutheran School, recently received an email from the parents of a child who benefited from an education at CLS for 4th and 5th grades before moving out of state. Her parents firmly believe that their child's "scholastic aptitude began a strong upward trajectory because of her time at CLS and especially because of Mrs. Segessenman and Ms. Ricca". We are blessed to have both of these teachers still teaching and sharing their passion for learning with the students.

The child graduated high school this past June a year early with a 4.65 GPA. She plans to attend the University of South Carolina in the fall to pursue a degree in Public Health and continue to earn a master's degree in Speech Pathology to work with children with autism.

We invite you to support our 22nd Annual Bob Fischer Memorial Golf Tournament on Thursday, September 26th, 2024, at Oakmont Green Golf Course in Hampstead, MD.

Bob Fischer was instrumental in building the school building at 1738 Old Taneytown Road in Westminster. Thanks to his efforts and business contacts, he found the acreage and managed the process of blueprints for the creation of the beautiful campus.

This tournament raises funds for the scholarship fund that will now be a living legacy in Bob’s name.

The mission of CLS is “exceptional education, formed in faith.” The school offers students a personalized and well-rounded education that includes all aspects of learning, including music, art, and library sciences, in a Christian atmosphere. Students of all faiths are welcomed at CLS and are encouraged to learn at their own pace to achieve their highest potential. We are creating the next generation of community leaders!

The scholarship fund allows us to extend the reach of a Christian education to the children of our community. We are seeking sponsors, golfers, and donations for our raffle which will be open to our 80+ players in this annual tournament. All contributions will be recognized in the program booklet at the game, on the golf website, and on social media. All donations, in-kind or monetary, are tax-deductible to the extent of the law.

If you are interested in a golf registration which includes a noon shotgun start followed by dinner, the fee is $90 per player and $360 per foursome.

To register to play golf or to support us with a sponsorship, visit our registration website at www.clsedu.org/golf.

It is wonderful to get support from the community! Dr. Margaret Pitrone, from PSJ Orthodontics, was kind enough to loan our health teacher some educational beekeeping items from her own apiary, Beyond Sweet Honey. Dr. Pitrone was also very generous in sharing several honey samples from other states that the students tasted and evaluated. Students in K-4th grades saw, touched, smelled, and tasted items from the amazing honey bee! 🐝

Health teacher, Mrs. Plendl, said it was a fun and delicious way to end our pollinator lessons. The kids loved the "crunchy" honey the most .❤️

Dr. Pitrone said she has heard great things about CLS, and Mrs. Plendl shared that several of our students go to PSJ Orthodontics for care, and were excited to learn about her passion for bees.🐝

Whether exploring new hobbies or diving into summer reading, keep your child's mind and body active this summer.

1. Make reading a daily habit. Children learn when their brains are active, even when reading fun and easy books.
2. Enroll children in a summer enrichment program. Schools or community programs often sponsor events and activities to keep kids engaged.
3. Make sure your child's summer is filled with physical activities. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, children need 60 minutes of physical activity each day, including aerobic and muscle-strengthening activities.

Education is affordable at Carroll Lutheran School. Summer is a time of relaxation. Although the school year ended just a few weeks ago, it is never too early to start thinking about the next academic year. Families use the summer months to review their child's academic progress and consider if additional support or a different educational environment is needed. Summer is a great time for students to engage in enriching and educational activities outside the traditional school curriculum.

One idea to consider is field trips. You can organize virtual tours or in-person field trips to museums, historical sites, or national parks. Many institutions offer online resources and virtual tours that students can explore from home.

These activities can foster a love for learning, promote creativity, and keep students engaged during the summer break and they can be tailored to suit the interests and age of your child/ren.

The grandparents of two students at Carroll Lutheran School, Peter and Cindy Jones, sent this email of gratitude to Mrs. Gilbart last week. These emails reinforce that a difference is being made every day at CLS.

"I just want to extend a personal thank you for all you and your staff have done for our grandchildren during their first year. Though we recognize the strong academic program at CLS, quite frankly, we’re most grateful for the Christ-centered focus that you and your staff clearly make a priority in their experience at CLS. Much more than a gifted school principal, I sense that God has inspired in you to an even higher calling – to help our youth build a solid foundation grounded in scripture and the love of Jesus."

It may be difficult to think of school starting in the fall since it has just let out for the summer. Still, tours are scheduled throughout the summer if you are interested in learning more about an education at Carroll Lutheran School where an exceptional education is formed in faith. Our next tour dates are June 24th at 9:30 a.m. and June 25th at 2:00 p.m. Please call the school at 410-848-1050 for more information.

It is with mixed emotions that we announce the retirement of Mrs. Ferguson. Her sweet demeanor will be greatly missed in the halls of Carroll Lutheran School. Mrs. Ferguson taught every year of her adult life except five years. Her teaching resume includes public schools in both Baltimore City and Carroll County, private Christian schools, home-schooling her boys, and subbing during the years that she was between schools. We are most grateful for the 12 years that she taught at CLS. Except for her first year teaching second grade and her second year teaching first and second grades combined, she has been the face behind first grade at CLS.

From all of the students she has taught and the staff that has been blessed to work beside her, we wish her the happiest and healthiest of retirements. You deserve it!

ELCA stands for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. It's one of the largest Christian denominations in the United States, with over 3 million baptized members in about 8,900 congregations. The ELCA was formed in 1988 through the merger of three Lutheran church bodies. It's known for its commitment to social justice, ecumenical dialogue, and theological diversity.

ELCA Good Gifts identifies the needs and priorities in the community and offers gifts that can be purchased to make the biggest impact. Carroll Lutheran School supports ELCA Good Gifts by collecting chapel offerings throughout the year. This year, we raised $755. The second-grade class worked with their teacher, Miss Ball, to decide what gifts they wanted to buy with these funds.

This year, CLS is purchasing the following ELCA Good Gifts with the money raised:

3 doctors appointments
2 school money and uniforms for girls
1 mosquito net for a family
3 water filters
6 chicks
1 fruit tree
2 backpacks of food
3 roosters
1 piglet
2 goats
5 Bibles
1 food for a child for a month
1 feed a refuge family for a week
3 mosquito nets
1 honeybee hive
2 blankets
1 hygiene kit
1 cow

It is important to CLS that we support other Lutheran missions. We are happy to be able to make a difference with these gifts. Thanks to all who donated and to the second-grade class and Miss Ball for their efforts in choosing the gifts that they felt offered the greatest impact.

Students were surprised on field day when some of their teachers participated by wearing blow-up costumes and participated in a race and shared in the fun. And, let's not forget our school mascot, Luther! Luther made an appearance to cheer on the children as well.

The annual field day at Carroll Lutheran School was last Friday. It was a beautiful day to enjoy yard games in the morning and water games in the afternoon. All enjoyed lunch from Kennie's Market in Taneytown and an icy treat from Kona Ice.

As the end of the school year approaches, there is a lot to celebrate. At Carroll Lutheran School, we celebrate the children's accomplishments in kindergarten. Last week, the families of our children in kindergarten were invited to hear songs, scriptures, and all of the achievements of these children. These children are now on their way to the 1st grade!

This year's spring performance was called "All Creation Praise Creator". The program featured scripture and free verse readings, singing, and skits. Fourth-grade teacher Mrs. Kristen Pysh wrote "The Parable of the Butterfly." The message of this skit teaches us that we need to struggle in our lives. We would be crippled if God allowed us to go through our lives without any obstacles and we could never fly and be as strong as we could be. What a powerful message! Music teacher Mrs. Joy Cox had all students on stage to close out the show with the singing of "Creator," by Phil Wickham. It was a moving performance hearing students in grades kindergarten to 8th lift up their voices and worship their creator.

Carroll Lutheran School is blessed to have an art teacher who shows compassion while inspiring creativity in each of the students. Mrs. Gordon has been teaching art for 9 years with 6 of them being at CLS. Her passion for art shines through in every lesson she teaches and in the engagement of her classes. She is dedicated to seeing the growth in the students through the years. During our spring concert, the artwork of the students can be seen on display for families and friends to see. Here are some examples of the work she has been teaching this second half of the year.
