For Dan ✨
Our sweet, handsome man, Gary. You were a rockstar this last year, giving us more time than we thought we’d have with you. We are so lucky you got to meet Waylon and become best buds over the last 10 months. Thank you for being the best big brother and body guard. Seeing you both together melted our hearts. Thank you for filling our hearts for the last 10+ years with unconditional love and loyalty. You changed our lives and we will always miss you. We love you forever Gar🐻❤️
My sweet Nan who had been suffering for some time passed away a few weeks ago so Waylon and I went to Long Island to be with family. During this time although sad, I was fortunate to have extra time with my loved ones. Instead of the hustle of the week filled with business things, drawings, errands & house work, we slowed down and just enjoyed good company…
Everywhere we went I noticed so many people head down in their phones. A woman pulling two girls in a wagon, not looking around her just down at her phone missing the cute things her kids were doing alongside her. Even driving people are looking down at their screens. We also saw a few people at a dog park, their dogs running near them looking to play and their owners just emerged in the scrolling. This one was so bad that my Mom and I witnessed two dogs knock over one of its owners because he wasn’t paying attention, head down in a trance. The dogs came running at him full speed and took him right off his feet, it looked painful. It’s like walking device zombies being taken away from the reality around them.
Maybe it’s that I’ve been more aware since having a child but it seems like so many of us are slaves to our devices. I obviously use social media and my phone for business but I’ve been more intentional about when and where. I find it a bit ironic I am taking the time to post about this on my phone but I feel as though so many of us are missing out on how beautiful life is when not being attached to a screen all the time. I guess the point of this is, take the time to enjoy the fresh air, notice the things around you, have meaningful conversations, don’t take your time with the people you love for granted. Before we know it our kids are grown, family members are gone and you will never get that time back. Also, those how to tik tok videos you were so distracted with that wasted much of your time will be so irrelevant.

Rebel & Rose is not your typical tattoo shop. You notice it from the second you walk in— the bright, airy feel, photographs by female photographers on the walls, scattered antiques—but most notably Amanda, who opened the shop downtown in 2022, only employs women. “I wanted to give women a space where they can thrive and feel comfortable—the clients as well as my employees,” she says.

Thank you all for the love on my interview. If you know me, you know that wasn’t an easy task. Hearing your own voice on video is quite cringey and if I was asked to do that a year ago I would have said no shot! I used to care so much about what people thought of me and I was so hard on myself for the smallest of things. Part of the reason why I never do any talking videos is because of one situation early on in my career…
Over 10 years ago, I did a segment with Elite Daily. A tattoo spin the wheel type game show which was all over their website, social media and YouTube. People were cruel!! Not just critiquing my work either which, I was only tattooing about two years at the time. I took on the opportunity as a way to grow and who knew that I would get ripped apart in comments from my work to my appearance. I remember caring so much about what these keyboard warriors said that it made me shut down. Being someone who was already self conscious about the way I looked, this was debilitating. Did I not wear the right bronzer for my skin tone at the time? Sure but like come on haven’t we all been there?
I’ve come to a point in my life now where I feel way more free in this head space and it’s been the best feeling ever. If you struggle with caring too much about people’s perception of you, just let them think whatever it is they want about you. You shouldn’t feel like you have to prove anything to anyone or care to maintain an image for other people. The ones that know you best know your true character. Just stay true to yourself, you’re authentic, no one can be you which is what makes life so beautiful. JUST BE KIND, the world already has too many bullies.
This guy is 6 months! I can’t believe how fast time is flying by🥹. Now that I’m back to work part time we’re trying to get into the swing of things of our new schedule. I have a new admiration for women who handle this with grace. I think about how fortunate I am to have the studio to come and go as I need while I’m still able to raise Waylon with the help of some generous family.
I feel for those parents who had to return to work so soon. A 6-12 week maternity leave seems like a joke, you’re barely recovered psychically let alone the mental. There is so much pressure from society on mothers to do it all. Our babies need us, you carry them for 9 months to only be able to spend 6 weeks with them? We also need them just as much. Even after 6 months it’s been hard to leave Waylon when I go to work but I know he’s in the best hands. To all the moms who jumped right back into work because you had to, I feel for you! To the moms who are balancing their work schedules and their kids, I see you and admire you!
Love a little hand jam 🪽 thanks Jaeda!
