Thanks to an observant land owner, we found Spotted Lanternfly (SLF) in Kentucky in Gallatin County last October. Recently, folks from our office and the Kentucky Division of Forestry visited the property again and found SLF nymphs hatching from egg masses. Please keep your eyes out and visit our office website to become a citizen scientist if you want to help us look for these insects! https://ose.uky.edu/

Word to the wise...we've been dealing with a very sick dog for the last two weeks (fever, lameness, lethargy, poor appetite, runny nose, weepy eyes, and now elevated white blood count). After four trips to three vets, three sets of tests, ultrasound, and x-ray, they are 95% certain it is a tick-borne disease (likely either Lyme, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, or Canine Bartonellosis). I'm telling you this because the vet says he's had 15 cases already in 2024 and they initially tested negative. I strongly suggest that you treat your clothing with permethrin if your plan to be outdoors (it lasts through multiple washes). If you have dogs, beware. This isn’t a problem we’ve had to deal with much in the past.
