Happy Father’s Day to all you horse Dads from your most demanding and oversized child!
I wanted to give a shout out to Dr Tyler Bell and Carrie Garon for the great bodywork/chiropractic demo. It was the most informative one I’ve attended, and we really appreciate it. Our horses will also love you for the stretches their owners can do. Thanks for the donations for our door prizes as well!
So glad the Wichita Mounted Unit calls Eagle View Equestrian home. We get to see a lot of the great things these officers do for our community.
Thanks so much to Kyle Carter for traveling up to Wichita! We had a GREAT clinic with so many lessons learned, homework, fun!! Can’t wait to have you back! PS…. I did a terrible job of getting pictures of everyone….
We are five days away from Kyle Carter arriving in Kansas! We are so excited! Goodie bags for full clinic participants are taking over the house! There is an educational session on Tuesday, June 11th, at 6:15 pm. Kyle will be giving a talk, and there will be a
Chiro and Bodywork demo by Dr Tyler Bell and Carrie Garon. They have both graciously donated a session for door prizes, and we will have some other door prizes as well. If you’d like to audit and attend the evening session, it is $35 per day to audit. Dinner on Tuesday is included with auditing. Pony Club members can audit for a discounted rate of $20 for both days. If you would like to audit, please let Kim know as it must be paid for in advance.
We have a few spots left for this clinic! Don’t miss out! Kyle is such a kind clinician, and you will learn so much!

🤣🤣
We are looking for part-time barn help on the weekends. Duties include handling horses, helping feed/water, cleaning stalls, and general clean-up of the barn. Hours are 5:45 am to roughly 9:30 am Saturday and Sunday. If interested, please send me a DM.
This is easy to forget sometimes….
Things your riding instructor wants you to know:
1. This sport is hard. You don't get to bypass the hard…..every good rider has gone through it. You make progress, then you don't, and then you make progress again. Your riding instructor can coach you through it, but they cannot make it easy.
2. You're going to ride horses you don't want to ride. If you're teachable, you will learn from every horse you ride. Each horse in the barn can teach you if you let them. IF YOU LET THEM. This leads me to…
3. You MUST be teachable to succeed in this sport. You must be teachable to succeed at anything, but that is another conversation. Being teachable often means going back to basics time and time and time again. If you find basics boring, then you are not looking at them as an opportunity to learn. This brings me to…..
4. This sport is a COMMITMENT. Read that, then read it again. Every sport is a commitment, but in this sport, your teammate weighs 1200 lbs and speaks a different language. Good riders don't get good by riding every once in a while….they improve because they make riding a priority and give themselves the opportunity to practice.
5. EVERY RIDE IS AN OPPORTUNITY. Even the walk ones. Even the hard ones. Every. Single. Ride. Remember when you just wished someone would lead you around on a horse? Find the happiness in just being able to RIDE. If you make every ride about what you AREN'T doing, you take the fun out of the experience for yourself, your horse, and your instructor. Just enjoy the process. This brings me to...
6. Riding should be fun. It is work. and work isn't always fun.....but if you (or your rider) are consistently choosing other activities or find yourself not looking forward to lessons, it's time to take a break. The horses already know you don't want to be here, and you set yourself up for failure if you are already dreading the lesson before you get here.
7. You'll learn more about horses from the ground than ever while riding. That's why ground lessons are essential, too. If you're skipping ground lessons (or the part of your lesson that takes place on the ground), you're missing out on the most important parts of the lesson. You spend far more time on the ground with horses than you do in the saddle.
8. Ask questions and communicate. If you're wondering why your coach is having you ride a particular horse or do an exercise, ask them. Then listen to their answer and refer to #3 above.
9. We are human beings. We make decisions (some of them life and death ones) every day. We balance learning for students with workloads for horses and carry the bulk of this business on our shoulders. A little courtesy goes a long way.
Of all the sports your child will try through their school years, riding is one of 3 that they may continue regularly as adults (golf and skiing are the others).
People who coach riding spend the better part of their free time and much of their disposable income trying to improve their own riding and caring for the horses who help teach your child. They love this sport and teaching others…..but they all have their limits. Not all good riders are good coaches, but all good coaches will tell you that getting good is not easy.

I’m just gonna leave this here…
Even the upper level horses have their moments…. 😂 So, pat your horse, remember to breathe, and have fun!!
Oughterard Cooley says hi.
The first session of dressage is under way.
This is so true. I spent about 5 months just walking and trotting Princess Juliet, and she is so much more rideable on the flat and jumping. Still tons of work to do, but we keep plugging away….
And, with Kim’s “Extremely Fast” (according to the Show Announcer) Double Clear Show Jumping Round at the Texas Rose Horse Park’s March 2023 Horse Trials the Eagle View Equestrian Posse all finish the show (with big smiles and several lessons learned). Travel safe, ladies, and don’t forget to tip your Stable Boy, without whom, you would all lose the dignified label of “Posse” and rightfully be called “A Collective Clown Show!!”
Rhi Rasmussen once again gets the Eagle View Equestrian Posse off to a great start for the day at the Texas Rose Horse Park’s March 2023 Horse Trials. An almost perfect Show Jumping Round. Way to go Rhi … put this show in the bag. Now you just wait on the ribbon.
