Alloy Architecture
Every design begins with ideas. Ideas that relate to what is and how things can become.
Mondays at the office aren’t bad when the office goes to Topgolf! We decided to enjoy the end of summer yesterday by treating everyone to an afternoon of food, fun, drinks and golf! ⛳️
With the Olympics starting today most people think of athletes and sporting events. But did you know that Architecture was an Olympic event from 1912 – 1948?
In Ancient Greece it was believed that the ideal way to achieve harmony was to exercise both the body and mind. Competitions for music, singing and public speaking were held in the ancient Olympic Games along with sporting competitions.
Pierre de Coubertin, the father of the modern Olympics, wanted to bring the arts back to the Olympics and in 1906 recommended the art competition. It became a reality in the 1912 Stockholm Games with medals awarded in architecture, literature, music, painting and sculpture. All entries in the art competition were required to draw a link between art and sport.
The first ever Olympic gold medal in architecture was won by Eugène-Edouard Monod and Alphonse Laverriére of Switzerland in 1912 for their town planning project Building Plan of a Modern Stadium.
In 1928 the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam designed by architect Jan Wils won a gold medal. (First picture) The Payne Whitney Gymnasium at Yale University designed by architect John Russel Pope won a silver medal in 1932. (Second picture) The last-ever gold medal in architecture was won by Austrian Adolf Hoch for Ski Jumping Hill on the Kobenzl at the 1948 London games. The art competition ended after the 1948 games due to a high number of professionals entering.
Over the next couple of weeks while the world’s top athletes are competing for gold, we’ll share more of the best architecture from the Olympic games.
Our second intern we had this summer is Caleb Fisher. Caleb interned for us last year and decided to come back for another summer! He said it was an amazing work experience and “the fun personalities and office culture make the workdays fly by.” (Thanks Caleb!)
Caleb attends KSU and will graduate with a Master of Architecture degree in the spring of 2025. He enjoys golf, disc golf, archery, and running. He said the highlight of his summer outside of work was spending a week with his fiancé and her family at their cabin in Michigan.
Caleb’s favorite project while at Alloy was working on an elementary school in the district where he graduated from high school.
Thanks for coming back for another year Caleb, we enjoy having you on our team!
We have had two great interns this summer who are wrapping up their time at Alloy.
The first is Madysen Zoglman. Madysen attends KSU and will graduate from the 5-year Master program in May of 2026. She enjoys traveling and is looking forward to studying abroad in Orvieto, Italy next January.
Madysen met two of our architects at the Wichita Open last year and after touring our office decided to give Alloy a try. She says she has gained more experience in software, learning some new ones and developing skills in already known software, all while getting a glimpse of what the professional world is like outside of school.
We are so glad you decided to join our team Madysen and have enjoyed having you here this summer!
Happy National Tape Measure Day!
To celebrate this important holiday, we held Alloy's First Annual Tape Measure Extension Competition (we're still working on the name). Rules were created, rules were broken, and rules were ignored. But a good time was had by all!
This year's winner was Geoff Snow with a length of 8' 4"
We’re not in Kansas anymore!
Sharing some progress shots from our St. Gabriel’s PK-8 school project in Colorado Springs, Co
With an excellent view of the mountains, St. Gabriels School is located west of the existing Church, occupying an area with a 38’ drop in the topography that keeps the school from obstructing the existing parish hall’s view of Pikes Peak and the front range. The project is primarily a masonry facility with a Commons that is centralized in the building and opens to an exterior courtyard/gathering space and amphitheater which will be used for teaching and Parish functions. The facility is approximately 65,000 s.f. and will have a 450-student capacity when completed. Construction is progressing for a mid-August opening.
Alloy was honored to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Marion County Health Department Monday along with NF Construction. The Health Department will be 5,000 sf and is scheduled to open in January 2025.

Had an opportunity to represent AIA Kansas and spend an enjoyable evening with several members of AIA Flint Hills and students in the K-State AIAS Chapter, listening to a presentation “Adventures in Formalism” presented by Kevin Wineinger, AIA. Kevin is a Principal with Focal Design Studio in Kansas City and a 2000 Graduate of Kansas State University, and has a very interesting work history, beginning in New York, then to Los Angeles, then Chicago, before landing in Kansas City. During his time in the various cities, Kevin had the opportunity to work with some fantastic architects.
Thank you to AIA Flint Hills and AIAS for your hospitality!

Our second intern is Isaac Jirak who is a Mechanical Engineering student at Harvard University. Isaac is looking to pursue a master’s in architecture and chose to intern at Alloy to become more familiar with the profession. Isaac chose architecture because he’s interested in combining the practical and functional elements of a project with its aesthetic and subjective influence on its audience. In his spare time he enjoys practicing music, particularly the guitar, and reading. He plans on reading several classics over the summer.
Welcome Isaac, we’re glad you’re here!
We have 2 summer interns at Alloy this year that we’d like to introduce you to. The first is Caleb Fisher who is an Architecture student at K-State. Caleb chose architecture because it incorporates design, problem solving and personal relations – all of which are things he enjoys. He’s looking forward to gaining experience this summer working and socializing in a professional setting as well as learning new software. Outside of work Caleb enjoys playing golf and hopes to get a lot of time in on the golf course this summer.
Welcome Caleb, we’re glad you’re here!
We had a great time at the Wichita Open over the weekend. Thank you to all our guests who were able to join us! Make sure you check out our picture of how close Adrian Springer came to a hole in one!

Meet our newest intern Christian Coleman. Christian is a senior at Northeast Magnet High School and has been with us since Feb. 9th. His interests are anything musical whether it’s playing, creating or just listening, and architecture. Last semester he had a musical internship so this semester he’s trying architecture. The one thing he said he didn’t expect to work on at Alloy was “Researching businesses and contractors, as well as working on spread sheets of information.”
Well, it can’t all be fun and games, but we’re so glad to have you here!
Yes, it was April Fool's Day, but it really was Alloy's 42nd Anniversary. Had fun celebrating!
