For those who have followed our grafting progress this winter we are happy to report that all of the understocks and banding has been cut off leaving our scions successfully mated on a new root system! Our thoroughbred babies will go into our fields this fall and be ready in a few years to help beautify Wichita for the next 99 years ! Out of 2000 grafts we only lost about 40….. a new record for us.

Potting is underway at the Nursery. These “Sleeping Beauties” will be rooted and ready for your landscape in a few weeks! See us soon for best selection of dormant bare root trees and shrubs. Twice the plant for half the money!!!

Our grafts are almost fully healed and they are out from under the glass! Had a record take this year….. out of almost 2000 we have only lost about a dozen! The understock tops will be cut off soon and the scions will be on their own on the understocks roots. We propagate our own “thoroughbred “ Taylor’s, Dwarf Taylor’s, Caneart, Ketleeri, Incense Cedar, Goldspire Arborvitae, Weeping Alaska Cedars, and more!

Grafting 2024 is now complete. They are looking good and healing up nicely! The scions are callousing with the understock and will be ready for our fields this Fall and your yards in 2028-2029!

We will be closed Friday February 23rd to honor the life and legacy of the late, great, Bud Redmond.
Bud was a lifelong friend to all of us at Hillside Nursery - a wonderful kind soul who helped us with countless projects over the years.
Bud was always quick to help, day or night, with a welding project, a broken piece of equipment, or just about anything else we needed fixed - which was almost daily!!
Always patient, kind, and gregarious, Bud was our mentor, our rock, and most importantly our dearest friend.

During the first years of business our South Hillside location was rural, surrounded by fields of golden wheat. Wichita has grown around us, to give the Nursery a convenient location a mile east of Interstate 35. Our tree farm in Derby Kansas allows us to offer both common and rare nursery stock that is highly acclimated to the unusual conditions that exists is south-central Kansas.
