Meet Myrtle! Myrtle is a gorgeous, 21 pound, two year old Beagle. This precious little princess was rescued from a situation where her previous owner allowed her to roam outside, unsupervised, without a leash or fenced yard. She was found wandering along a busy highway, and after the third time she wandered away, her owner decided that if she didn't want to come home, then he didn't want her. Beagles are scent-driven and they love to follow their noses, so it is absolutely NO surprise that she wandered away when she was unsupervised in an unsecured yard! Myrtle just wanted to find the pot of gold at the end of the scented rainbow. Anyone who has ever met a beagle knows they are tender hearted, gentle, affectionate, non-reactive, silly, sweet, friendly, hungry, and that they LOVE to follow their noses! Myrtle loves everyone she meets, no matter their size, age, or species. She's great with other dogs and takes cues from them well, giving them space as needed. She adores humans and wants to be close at all times, and would prefer someone be petting her constantly. She is a cuddle bug to her very core! All Myrtle really wants in life is a snuggle buddy who will give her lots of love. She's happy to share her space with other dogs and/or as many people as are willing to give her attention, but she would also be perfectly content as an only dog. While she has not been cat-tested, odds are good that she would behave fine around kitties, too. Myrtle is housebroken with supervision (she has only had one accident in her foster home), crate trained, and has excellent house manners. She's also learning to sit for treats and pets! The only thing Myrtle really needs is a securely fenced yard - outside of that requirement, we truly think she will be happy with anyone, anywhere.

10 Most Common Dog Skin Issues: How To Spot, Diagnose, and Treat Many medical conditions can affect your dog’s skin, and dog skin disorders are one of the most common reasons for veterinary visits. In this article, Dr. Melissa Boldan discusses the most common dog skin issues.
Let's talk about this photo. It's cute, except it's not. I see a dog who cannot get up without telling the child to get off. How do you think a dog is going to do that?
The 7 Golden Toddler Dog Rules:
#1: If a dog walks away from you, you DO NOT FOLLOW.
#2: Always leave room for the dog to walk away from you.
---that right there is 90+% of dog bites eliminated---
#3: We do not climb on the dog.
#4: We do not grab or pull on the dog.
#5: We do not hit or throw anything at the dog.
#6: We do not touch the dog's food.
#7: We do not go into the dog's kennel.
I promise these are not overly difficult concepts for littles, nor will they rob a kid of their bond with the family dog. It will deepen that bond, while keeping everyone safe.
"Oh, it looks like Moose is walking away from you. She is saying she wants a break. Let's play with this instead!"
"It's Moose's dinner time! Let's give her space to enjoy her yummies."
"That is Moose's room(kennel) and only she is allowed to go in there."
"If Moose wanted a break, could she walk away from you right now? No she really couldn't. Let's move away from the play house. You can keep playing but now she can leave when she wants a break."
In conclusion, ***parent your child or your dog will do it for you, and you will not like how they do it.***

Cat Aggression: Fighting, Biting, and Attacking Have a cat that fights with other cats or bites you for what seems to be no reason? Find out what these behaviors mean and how you can help.
Just to let everyone know. The Wichita Animal Shelter is having issues with their communications. Their phone system is not always working and computer system is down. If you have lost your pet, please go in person to look for your pet. 24 Petconnect cannot be updated and they are unable to take credit card payments. Therefore, they are working on a cash only basis, so if you are to come and reclaim your lost pet you will need to bring cash.
Hopefully the city will get everything worked out soon and all will be as usual again. Until then, please share this as much as possible so people will understand why their phones are not ringing or no one is answering and why 24 petconnect has not been updated.
Sure, "can I pet that dog" videos have gone viral on social media, but when it comes to dog bite prevention, it's important to know how to avoid escalating risky situations and to understand when you should and should not interact with dogs. Here are a few scenarios when you should avoid petting a dog. You can find more helpful tips at avma.org/DogBite.

How the Kong ball was invented.
The Kong toy was invented by accident more than 40 years ago when Joe Markham needed a way to prevent his German Shepherd Fritz from biting on rocks and sticks. Fritz, who Markham adopted as a shelter dog, had worn down his teeth to one-third of the size they should have been.
He was working on his vehicle and tossed an axle stop with an attached bracket on the ground. His dog got hold of it and loved it. He was playing with it joyously, much to Markham’s amusement.
He said to his friend, “What do you think of my new dog toy?”
His friend replied, “Actually, it’s not too pretty. It looks like an earplug from King Kong.”
And the Kong toy was born☝😉
