ICT Food Rescue
We are referred to as food rescuers, food runners or gleaners. https://beta.v3.foodrescue.us/login
This link is the software we operate from.
Historically, gleaners collected leftover crops from farmers' fields after they had been harvested or from fields where it was not economically profitable to harvest. Click this link to become a volunteer!
We invite you to join us in distributing unavoidable food surplus to those who are food insecure in Wichita. We use a web-based app that allows you to choose when, where, and how often you rescueπ food. Most rescues take only 30 minutes. Will you join us?

For those of you who are new to our FB page, we are partnering with K-State Research & Extension - Sedgwick County Master Gardeners' program Plant A Row for the Hungry! If you have surplus harvest items, bring them π§Ί to a drop-off location. Then ICT Food Rescue awesome rescuers will pick them up and take them to our food insecue recipient organizations. Thanks so much for being a part of the change in reducing food waste and feeding the food insecue.
For over 20 years, Plant a Row for the Hungry has honored the tradition of gardeners sharing their bountiful harvests with others. We encourage local home gardeners, hobby farmers and community gardens to take a hand in reducing hunger in the community by planting and harvesting extra produce, fruits, and herbs with the intention to donate in mind.
Locally, the cooperative effort between the Sedgwick County Extension Master Gardener volunteers and ICT Food Rescue makes it simple for people to contribute fresh produce that will be used to feed those in need in our community. When you donate by dropping fresh vegetables, herbs, or fruit off at one of the local collection sites, it becomes bags of produce for families or seniors in need, meals for those in shelters or low-income housing, or a healthy snack for kids in daycare.
The Plant a Row program is happening now! Drop off sites are located in several areas of Sedgwick County. Please see the flyer for a drop off site near you.

ICT Food Rescue Background
ICT Food Rescue began when founder Stephanie Merritt returned to college at the age of 46. The courses that she took to obtain her degree at Wichita State University along with a job where food surplus was thrown out every day inspired her to find a way to make a change. Merritt started small, just rescuing food surplus whenever she could. She found out that if she were to form a nonprofit organization the sky would be the limit. In February 2016, ICT Food Rescue (formerly known as Wichita Area Coalition for Kindness) came to life.
We provide logistical support to save surplus food from stores, restaurants, and individuals. Our Mission is to distribute unavoidable food surplus, sharing with the food insecure of Wichita. We coordinate food βrunnersβ(volunteers) who transport donated surplus to receiving non-profits. We are also an advocate for reducing food waste and bringing attention to food insecurity in the Wichita area.
From 2016 to 2020 ICT Food Rescue has come a long way. In March of 2018 ICT Food Rescue started using the app FOOD RESCUE US. This app makes it easy for volunteers to pick food up and rescue it on their own time, allowing more of the Wichita community to help out. Thanks to all the donors, volunteers, and receiving agencies ICT Food Rescue saved 242,285 meals from the landfills. #feedpeoplenotlandfills
