NWS will be using Facebook as a supplemental channel to disseminate environmental information and promote weather awareness activities including outreach and educational efforts.
A warming trend is expected to commence this weekend and really ramp-up for the start of the work week. By Tuesday we are expecting highs in the 101 to 107 degree range with heat indices 105 to 110.
A few hit-or-miss showers and thunderstorms will impact eastern Kansas Thursday through Saturday, mainly during the afternoon and early evening. Triple digit heat returns by Sunday and Monday, likely persisting through next week.
Dry conditions and temps in the 90s will prevail over the next week and increase to near 100 degrees next week. The only chance (20%) for few storms will be Saturday across portions of southeast KS.
The forecast across Kansas will turn hotter and mainly dry for most of the area the next 7 to 10 days. High temperatures by early next week will climb within a few degrees of 100. Chances for rainfall look rather limited.
Aside from isolated to widely scattered showers and storms Saturday over southeast Kansas, mostly dry weather will prevail the next several days. Temperatures will be mostly seasonable, with hot summer heat returning for Sunday and into next week.
Isolated to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms will impact portions of central and eastern Kansas through about 8 PM this evening. Severe weather is not expected.
Areas of patchy dense for are possible for the next few hours this morning in western Russell and Barton counties. Use caution on roadways and slow down to allow more time to react to changing traffic conditions.
Aside from a couple isolated showers/storms today, dry conditions will return to the area for the remainder of the week. Seasonable to slightly above normal temperatures are expected.
While some rain occurred this evening upstream of the Cheney Lake dam, the overall continued drier than normal weather has resulted in a further drop in Cheney Reservoir of a little more than four-tenths of a foot in the last 2 weeks. The forecast remains very dry after this evening for the next 7 days!
Isolated to scattered showers and storms will continue to move south from central into western portions of south central Kansas. Gusty winds and brief downpours will be possible, though severe weather is not expected this evening.
A few isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible across the region Tuesday. Otherwise, mostly dry and warmer weather will prevail the next several days.

There will be small chances for showers and storms today and tonight, especially across central Kansas. Otherwise, look for a gradual warm-up this week with highs in the 90s likely by Wednesday.
Outside of small rain chances Monday and Tuesday, dry conditions are expected over the next 7 days with temperatures returning to the 90s.
Highs are expected to be in the 80s again today across the region with some isolated shower and storm chances across eastern Kansas.
A slow warm-up is expected for next week with highs in the 90s forecast by Wednesday.
[4:55 AM, Sun July 21] - A few showers and storms will continue to linger across portions of southern KS this morning. Lightning and heavy downpours are the main concerns with this activity.
Isolated to widely scattered showers and storms will be most probable across southern Kansas overnight. The strongest storms will be capable of gusty winds, small hail and brief heavy downpours. Severe weather is not expected.

[5:56am, Sat July 20] - Scattered showers and storms will continue across portions of central and south central KS this morning. Some storms may contain gusty winds, pea sized hail, and heavy downpours.
Hit-or-miss storms are still forecast this weekend and into the beginning of next week, but storm chances will gradually move eastward each day. Below average temperatures are expected through the beginning of next week.
For today through Monday highs are only expected to be in the 80 to 85 degree range. Look for some scattered showers and storms for both today and Sunday with brief heavy rain the main threat.
[4:30am, Sat July 20] - Chances for scattered showers and storms will increase this morning mainly along and west of the KS Turnpike. A few storms may contain gusty winds, pea sized hail, and heavy downpours.
Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop overnight for locations generally west of the Kansas turnpike. Some of the storms could be locally strong with small hail, gusty winds to 55 mph and heavy rainfall rates.
At 8:22PM on July 19th, the Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Russell and Barton counties has been cancelled. A thunderstorm cannot be ruled out later on, but there is not a threat for severe storms at this time.
Chances are increasing for the potential of severe storms producing 60-70 mph wind gusts this evening into tonight across portions of central Kansas. Be sure to have multiple ways to receive warnings and weather information.
Cooler than average temperatures are still expected this weekend with scattered showers and storms also forecast for both Saturday and Sunday.
