Lambda Alpha is the international honors society for students of anthropology. From its base at WSU, Lambda Alpha has grown to include more than fifty chapters.
The name, Lambda Alpha, comes from the initial letters of the Greek words logos anthropou, meaning the 'study of man.' The society was originally founded at Wichita State University with the purpose of encouraging scholarship and research in anthropology. This semester's fall field trip will be to Sedgwick County Zoo on Saturday, Oct. 16th, 2021. Those who are attending must be at SCZ by 10:00 am, as everyone who wishes to get the discounted admission must enter together.
Admission will be $6 per person and must be paid to Lambda Alpha no later than Friday, Oct. 15th by 5:00 pm. Admission should be given to Sam Dixon (Treasurer) or Gracie Tolley (President). Cash is preferred.

Next week, Rex Buchanan, the Interim Director of the Kansas Geological Survey, will be presenting his research on petroglyphs at the McPherson Museum. Based on the book Petroglyphs of the Kansas Smoky Hills, this presentation focuses on these carvings, their creators, and their relationship to the land. The presentation also discusses the challenges of dating and interpreting these carvings, the threats posed by erosion and vandalism, and the role of landowners whose property shelters these carvings.
MEETING TOMORROW (9/23) at 3:30 pm. Meet on the second floor of Neff Hall over by the Archaeology of Food Lab, where we will begin our tour the anthropology labs of three of the professors (Dr. Blakeslee, Dr. Dozier, and Dr. Kreinath).
We welcome you to join us to learn about current research and projects going on in the Anthropology department!
Join Dr. Jens Kreinath at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 24 at Neff Hall on the second floor for an informative tour of “Remember Aleppo.” A discussion will follow at 7:30 p.m.
The tour and discussion will focus on the photo exhibit “Reimagining Aleppo Through Peace and Pain,” which opened at Neff Hall in 2019.
