I am thinking about new trainings that I could provide for nonprofits.
1. Board Treasurer Training - there seems to be a huge need for good board treasurers and not every organization has an accountant or even a bookkeeper.
2. Tools and Apps for Small Nonprofits - this would including signing up for and setting up Google for Nonprofits, Microsoft for Nonprofits, TechSoup, Quickbooks Money, Monday.com, Canva, and getting a SAM/UEI number. These are all free for nonprofits and in the 10 years I have been working with startups and small nonprofits I see the need for tools to do the work.
The curriculum is still being created for the intense Grant Writing Course as well. And I am working on a course on Meeting the Collaboration Challenge.
Nonprofit friends, what do you think? Are the other things you feel you are missing and could use help with?

Someone reached out to me today regarding what to put in an "optimal letter of intent" which was requested by a grantor.
In my opinion an optimal letter of intent should include information that is included in the article at the link below and describe what the optimal program, service or situation would be that could be created with the funding.
I have found that most organizations don't write a ton of letters of intent but it is important to know what to put in one so check out the article for some guidance.
How to Write A Winning LOI (Letter of Intent) - GrantWriterTeam Blog What Belongs in Your LOI The defining intentions of a Letter of Intent are extensive. An LOI contains vital material for both the applying organization and the funding source. Your LOI is also your first chance to make a positive, lasting impression on the grantor. In addition, a strong LOI…
I am spending a lot of time reminding myself of Luke 6:31, “And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.”
Ah, the Golden Rule. It also applies to nonprofit boards and executives. Treat each other the way that you would want to be treated if you were in the position of the other is in. I work with so many that seem to have forgotten this rule.
Board members, treat nonprofit executives the same way you want to be treated by your employer.
Executives, treat board members as the volunteers that they are.
Both should show appreciation for the work each are doing. Nonprofit work isn't easy.
I consistently tell people that want to start nonprofit organizations not to incorporate as an LLC. I see a lot of people doing this and it doesn't make sense. So check out this article if you want to understand more about why you should just incorporate as a corporation.

The priority areas and associated strategies within both RFPs were established by the Kansas Prescription Drug and Opioid Advisory Committee’s (KPDOAC) 2023-2027 state strategic plan. These priority areas were split into two RFPs.
The KFA Board has made $3 million available in the first funding opportunity, which will prioritize strategies within the priority areas of treatment, recovery, harm reduction, and linkages to care.

Eligible organizations serving Kansans are invited to apply. Eligibility is limited to nonprofit organizations and units of state and local governments, that provide services in Kansas for the purpose of preventing, reducing, treating, or otherwise abating or remediating substance abuse or addiction.

The survey, which was an update of a survey the Fed conducted last summer, asked again about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on households, on communities, and on the organizations themselves.
While there are signs of improvement, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to negatively impact communities across the nation. For both communities and the organizations serving them, inflation, labor shortages, and the availability of childcare were top challenges.

Nonprofit Tip of the Day: One of the most important things in fundraising is cultivating relationships. Don't believe that hosting a fundraising event is going to net you a high return without first cultivating relationships with people that have the capacity to give.
Nonprofit Tip of the Day: When donors make a gift, it’s important to thank them quickly and effectively. A thank-you letter shouldn’t come six weeks after a donor makes a gift. And it probably shouldn’t include another ask.

Nonprofit Tip of the Day: It's important to identify and train someone other than your board chair and executive director to act as a spokesperson for the organization in case of a crisis. It's critical to have someone who is prepared and knows how to work with the media.
Nonprofit Tip of the Day: A great way for a board member to contribute to your fundraising program is to seek advice, rather than a donation. And donors often are complimented by the request for their counsel.
