Pressure control valve is another item that often gets over looked. When they do not close properly the engine will not get enough water at idle and will overheat.

The drive shaft seals below the waterpump are common failure points even on a very low 212 hour F115..

Cheers! No it is not a tequila sunrise but old fuel... Customer's boat had not been run in years and entire fuel system needed a clean out and tune up.

And this is why we only use genuine OEM parts in every service... aftermarket impeller did not make it very long.. rubber is very soft compared to OEM. FYI we did not install this... customer is very lucky not to have overheated the engine.

I sometimes get suspicious looks when I tell customers thermostats should be inspected every year and replaced every other year.

Yes your car or truck's thermostat may last 10+ years (or even life of the engine) but it is in a distilled water/glycol mix. Your outboard thermostat is in a heated 140F+ degree salt/mineral mix, then exposed to air for periods of time - it is a very harsh environment.

Note the pics on a thermostat that we think had 4 years on it (new customer) - A stuck open thermostat, heavy mineral buildup in housing. Once buildup was removed you could see the pitting in the housing. And the housing is the actual engine block...

Our goal is to maximize the life of your outboard and keep you on the water longer!

This is why it is important to have your lower unit pressure tested at every service. This lower had very clean fluid but failed the pressure test (needs to hold 10psi).

Upon removing the bearing and seal carrier you can see water had mixed with oil between the 2 seals. This lower unit was close to having water intrusion which can be extremely costly.
