📣 BIG shoutout to this AWESOME group of people who chose to come to the exercise class today- it was the largest class to date! 👏🏼💪🏼

We just wanted to take a moment to spotlight all of the participants in our Silver Fox Wellness Club. We are so proud of your hard work and dedication- some of these athletes have been with us for almost 4 years now! 😱🤗

Did you know that regular exercise results in ample physical and mental health benefits? 🤯Besides the numerous known physical benefits including stronger muscles and bones, a stronger more efficient cardiovascular system, decreased fall risk, and even lower risk of some cancers, group exercise has been shown to help your mental health, including reducing stress and depression, improving your quality of life, combatting loneliness, improving focus, and helping to motivate you to work harder while lifting your overall mood. 🗣️

Keep up the motivation, and just remember: “If you don’t choose to make time for your Wellness, you may be forced to deal with your Illness”. -Anonymous

*Edited to add a big shoutout to KAREN! 👏🏼😎 She truly cares about each and every one of her clients and exceeds her role as group fitness instructor, personal trainer, life coach, and friend. She is making such a difference in our local senior community, and we couldn’t be more THANKFUL that she is a part of our team! 🙌🏼❤️

This year has been flying by and we haven’t had a chance to introduce our newest team members! 📣👏🏼
Lori Apple, PT, MPT joined us back in January and Julie Dixon, PTA joined us in May. Please take a minute to read about them ⤵️ and help welcome them to the team! 👋🏼😎

www.HealthySeniorsPT.com/our-team

🔵 Lori Apple, PT, MPT received her Masters degree in Physical Therapy from the United States Army-Baylor University Program at Fort Sam in Houston, Texas. She remained in active military service for 5 years and primarily worked with Army active duty soldiers and their families, as well as retired members of the Army with the mission, “To preserve the fighting force.” Upon return to civilian life, Lori worked in acute care hospital, outpatient clinical, skilled nursing and home health settings, where her passion for the senior population grew. She has a great love for vestibular rehab, manual therapy, and orthopedics, along with helping those with Parkinson’s Disease. She furthered her training and knowledge in this area, and in Winston Salem, North Carolina in 2019, Lori achieved her certification to administer LSVT BIG- a treatment technique that trains people with Parkinson disease (PD) to use their body more normally, and can help regardless of the stage or severity of their condition. She really listens to her patients and enjoys helping them reach their individual goals first. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her husband, 3 children and 6 grandchildren while throwing birthday parties, going to plays and recitals, hiking trails, and playing tennis. Lori works part time at Healthy Seniors PT.

🔵 Julie Dixon, PTA was born and raised in Canfield, OH, and attended Youngstown State University and Ohio University, and graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Exercise Physiology. Knowing she wanted a career helping others, she continued her education at Hocking College and received her Physical Therapist Assistant license in 2004. After several years of employment in Columbus, OH, she began a travel assignment that eventually brought her here to Wilmington. She joins us at Healthy Seniors PT with over 20 years of service assisting the senior population with their Physical Therapy needs. In her free time, Julie and her husband chase around a very active little boy. Julie loves spending as much time outdoors as possible…at the beach, at the pool, or kayaking in the intracoastal waterway with friends. She also enjoys cooking and crafting, traveling and exploring new places, and spending quality time with her family and friends.

🚨✨Senior Spotlight- Meet Sally! 👋🏼
When Sally first came to Healthy Seniors for Physical Therapy, she was recovering from injuries that led her to being on bed rest for 3 years. 😱 She required use of a cane to walk, help with her ADLs (activities of daily living), and was unable to drive. Despite her obstacles, she regularly attended her PT sessions, kept up with her home exercise program (HEP), and worked so hard to improve. Her dedication definitely has paid off! 👏🏼 Sally is now walking over a mile without a cane 🚶🏻‍♀️, has returned to driving herself 🚙, and has achieved independence with all her household tasks! 🙌🏼 She even purchased some exercise equipment at home to continue her new active lifestyle. 💪🏼 Way to go Sally on working so hard to achieve your goals and return to your prior level! We are so proud of you, and it has been a pleasure to witness your accomplishments! 👍🏼😁 I think her smile says it all- what do you think?

She is certified in Functional Dry Needling. Alexa works part time at Healthy Seniors PT.

In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her husband Evan and her son Levi. They enjoy going to the beach, going for walks, cooking, and completing puzzles.

Ross and Christina had a great time with the Del Webb community last week discussing Physical Therapy’s role in Healthy Aging! They appreciated everyone’s time and attention as they spread awareness of how PT’s can help treat conditions related to those in this population, to help them continue to do the things they love. They also discussed Physical Activity recommendations and the benefits it has in overall health. Thank you for the warm welcome!

Christina and Karen had a great time yesterday with the Cape Fear Fall Prevention Coalition spreading awareness for FALL PREVENTION AWARENESS DAY! 🤩

Did you know that more than 1 out of 4 older adults fall each year? And falling once doubles your chance of falling again? 1 out of 5 falls causes a serious injury such as a broken bone or a head injury. 😱
Some preventable risk factors for falls include:
🔴 Vitamin D deficiency
🔴 Certain medications
🔴 Vision problems
🔴 Foot pain or poor footwear
🔴 Home hazards such as uneven steps or throw rugs or clutter
🔵 Lower body weakness
🔵 Difficulty with balance or walking

Physical Therapy can help with 🔵 lower body weakness, balance, and mobility! By assessing your fall risk through use of standardized tests, PTs can see if you are at an increased risk for falls, and if so they can create an individualized treatment plan to help decrease your risk! Don’t be a victim of the “Fall Cycle” or suffer an injury from a preventable fall- Call us today at (910)444-0020 to schedule your FREE fall risk screen!

📣Meet the two newest members of the Healthy Seniors PT team, our Patient Care Coordinators- Niki (left) and Wanda (right)! 🎉

We are so excited to have them and their background, knowledge, and experience, but most of all their smiling faces, positive attitudes, helpful natures, and kind, compassionate spirits.

When you see these two ladies behind the front desk- please give them a warm welcome! 👋🏼🤗

Please help us wish these 2 future Doctors of Physical Therapy well wishes as they prepapre to embark on their journey next month at Western Carolina University! 📚🏫📋 (which sadly means they will be leaving our team 😭)

Julianna (right) has been our Patient Care Coordinator for the past 2 years and as one our patients once put it best, she has been “the captain who makes sure the ship is always ready for its passengers”. We hope she won’t mind when we call her over the next couple months to ask her where something is, or how to do something, but hopefully it will just remind her how much we miss her!

Isabelle (left) has worked part time at our front desk for over a year now, and our Wednesday afternoons just won’t be the same without her around!

Isabelle’s last day was last month, and Julianna’s last day is this Friday. If you are in the clinic this week, please fill out one of our “advice and well wishes” cards for her to help us send her on her way!

We would like to say a big THANK YOU to them both for all of their hard work, dedication, and compassion they have provided as part of our team. We will miss you both, we are proud of you for getting into PT school, and we wish you nothing but the best! 👏🏼🎉🫶🏼

It was great to see the fun and camaraderie out there, all while getting in some physical activity. 💪🏼🏃
We are so happy to be a part of this organization- keep it up team! 👍🏼

Welcome Evan, we are so happy to have you! 😁

Read more about him below ⬇️ and help us welcome him to our team!

We are so proud of Carmen! 👏🏼 We first met Carmen in September after an extensive back surgery, where she was using a walker and her back pain was limiting all that she did. Carmen has been a dedicated, all-star patient with her home exercise program, and she has worked her way up to walking over 1.5 miles on her treadmill! 🚶🏻‍♀️💪🏼 Today, she is walking without an assistive device, moving better with more strength and balance, and her pain is much improved. Keep up the great work Carmen, we can’t wait to see how much more you can do! 🙌🏼😁👍🏼
