Wilmington Fire Department would like to give thanks to Walmart for a grant which enabled us to purchase the pictured Elkhart RAM. Walmart has been a tremendous community partner, supporting the fire department year after year.

Fueled up and ready to go

The Wilmington Fire Department and Life Squad are ready for the storm. Although not completely storm proof, several of our rescue vehicles are 4WD/AWD, leaving us better capable of getting around in adverse conditions than some vehicles. Please note though it may take longer than normal to get to you. If you find yourself in an emergency situation do not hesitate to call 9-1-1. Please remember our dispatchers and services will be taxed during this time so be patient, as we will respond but need to use the same caution we are asking you to use.

Our FD on Sugartree Street is considered a warming center and open for such a need, as is City Hall’s community room. Our FD can only be occupied when one or more of our members are present and should only be used for short term assistance.

Please remember that if you find yourself without power and relying on alternative heating sources, i.e. kerosene heaters, propane, etc, take extra precautions to avoid incidents of carbon monoxide issues or burns from contact with hot surfaces.

We want everyone to be safe throughout this trying time and we will make every effort to assist real emergencies. Limit trips out on the roads to only absolutely necessary trips, monitor radios or social media for weather updates, make sure smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and flashlights have good batteries in them, and know where your extra blankets are. The electric companies that serve our county are some of the best around and do a fantastic job. They will get to you. It just may take a while.

Stay safe and enjoy the snow, Andy Mason, Fire Chief
