HOW TO ADVOCATE FOR YOUR KID AT SCHOOL MEETINGS 🏫

As we near the beginning of the school year, we wanted to share some tips to keep in mind when talking with school staff.

FSN™ believes good communication with school staff is partly having a positive attitude and viewing yourself as a partner in the process.

Remember to have confidence in yourself and trust in your ability to make decisions for your child.

Sometimes, it helps to practice what you want to say ahead of time, but remember active listening skills are important too.

August is Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Awareness month. SMA impacts approximately 4 people in every 100,000 throughout the United States.

MA symptoms may include progressive muscle weakness, floppiness, and muscle wasting (atrophy). Muscle weakness is usually the same on both sides of the body.

Today is National Disability Independence Day. It marks the anniversary of when the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was passed.

Self-Advocates Becoming Empowered (SABE) is back! They are hosting their next virtual meeting for the Southeastern region. The focus will be home and community-based services and self-advocacy stories. This virtual event is Friday, July 26th from 10am to noon.
