"YMCA of Delaware Global Teens participants have safely returned to the United States!

Here’s a quick recap of Days 9 and 10: We had an amazing exchange with the teens at the YMCA in Kenya. We discussed their programs, shared our stories, and even had some heated debates on interesting topics. The Kenyan teens also shared insights on the recent protests in Kenya and how Gen-Z is advocating for their families and themselves.

On Sunday, we attended a church service in Swahili. Despite the language barrier, it was a wonderful experience. The bishop prayed over our group, and the choir not only served us lunch but also performed for us after the service!"

Days 6, 7, and 8: Unforgettable Memories for YMCA of Delaware Global Teen Participants

Our journey took us 5 hours from Nairobi to the stunning Maasai Mara. Over the course of two days, we embarked on thrilling safaris in the Maasai Mara National Park, where we were fortunate to see 4 out of the Big Five animals. For those unfamiliar, the Big Five includes the lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and African buffalo. Although we missed seeing the rhino, the experience was truly exhilarating.

We also had the incredible opportunity to visit a Maasai village, where we immersed ourselves in their rich culture and learned about their way of life. The experience was nothing short of amazing.

🤖 Exciting Times at the Walnut Street Y! 🤖

In celebration of , our Walnut Street YMCA teens dove into an amazing STEM adventure with Robotics classes led by the Tatnall School!
Over the course of three days, nearly two dozen enthusiastic summer campers formed seven dynamic working groups. Their mission? Build a basic "bot", attach a motor and programmed brain, and design an arm to drop a donut onto an awaiting post. 🛠️🍩

From assembling nuts and bolts to choosing between four-wheel models and tank treads, the campers were fully immersed. All teams had their bots gliding across the Teen Center floor, mastering remote control operations.
The real challenge began when each team had to work together to build a tower and a remote-controlled arm for the donut drop. While the actual drops were a mix of hits and misses, every team showcased outstanding engineering skills and teamwork.

Way to go, Walnut Street Y teens! We can’t wait to see what you build next! 💡✨

Day 3, 4, 5 in Nairobi were amazing! We wrapped up with painting at the YMCA Kibera Primary School and visited The Nairobi National Museum, The Giraffe Center and Bomas of Kenya. However, the highlight of day 3 was visiting the Kamba village!! We played and danced with the kids at school and received a beautiful welcome and lunch from members of the Kamba village. The YMCA of Delaware even donated food to the tribe!

🌍 Days 1 & 2 in Kenya 🇰🇪

Yesterday, we had the incredible opportunity to meet the CEO and President of the YMCA in Kenya. Their hospitality was unmatched, and the teens and young adults from the YMCA took us on a fantastic walking tour throughout the city.

This morning, we traveled to Kibera and had a heartwarming experience at the Kibera YMCA Primary School. We spent the day touring, painting, dancing, and donating clothes and essentials to the amazing students. The time we spent was priceless!
