Throwback Thursday: Discover The Shaffner Inn’s Rich History! 🕰️🏰

Did you know that The Shaffner Inn, a magnificent Victorian-style home built in 1907, was designed by the famed architects Northup and O’Brien? This beautiful residence perfectly blends the charm of its era with innovative features that were quite modern for the time. Each room has its own *original fireplace,* even though the house had a central heating system powered by a coal-fired furnace. And while the house was wired for electricity, it also had gas fixtures to light up every corner! 💡🔥

But here’s a truly unique detail: The *carved wooden mantel* in the formal dining room displays brass plates engraved with the dates “1776-1907.” The mantel and its supporting columns were made from wood salvaged from a log cabin in Salem. This cabin, built to shelter workers constructing the first house there, collapsed in 1907. Mr. Shaffner preserved its legacy by incorporating the wood into his home. 🪵✨
