Semaglutide is a powerful tool for weight loss. It can help you, but you can also HELP Semaglutide work better for you! Hydration and exercise will work synergistically with semaglutide to DRAMATICALLY increase how well it works. Just a few small lifestyle changes can set you on a new path. Feel free to ask me how I can help you achieve this.
What is Semaglutide, and how can it help you?
Semaglutides mechanism of action is as follows:
Semaglutide belongs to a class of drugs called GLP-1 receptor agonists. It works by mimicking the action of a natural hormone called GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) in the body.
When you eat, GLP-1 is normally released from your intestine. It plays a crucial role in regulating blood sugar levels by stimulating the release of insulin from the pancreas and reducing the release of glucose (sugar) from the liver.
Semaglutide, as a GLP-1 receptor agonist, binds to the same receptors as GLP-1 and enhances its effects. This leads to increased insulin secretion, decreased glucose production by the liver, and a slower emptying of the stomach, which helps to control blood sugar levels after meals.
In summary, semaglutide helps manage type 2 diabetes by boosting the natural actions of GLP-1 to regulate blood sugar and improve insulin sensitivity, and the end result is a large increase in satiety and reduced appetite.
Dosing: Starting at 0.5mg once per week.
My personal experience with this drug:
3 Weeks in during a diet phase. Upon using it within 48 hours I went from counting down the minutes to my next meal and being hungry at the 60 minute mark post-eating to not even knowing I needed to eat and relying on times or my energy levels dipping to know when to eat.
I have an enormous appetite and regularly have put 5000kcal away in the off season. One of my standard meals was 300-500g mixed potato, 250g salad, then 160g cooked weight meat. I immediately had to reduce my meal to 60g uncooked weight rice, 30g spinach, 160g of meat or I felt nauseous trying to finish it. Therefore, you can expect to HALF your food volume.
This makes the dieting process so much easier and contributes to a reduced food volume to assist with dialing in your waist.
I also have a past history of disordered eating, having always struggled to not over eat, massive food focus, and we all know how much worse this gets during prep. The psychological relief of being able to diet, attend meals out, and not feel a need to over eat or binge eat has been borderline upsetting as I realise that this is how a “normal” person feels and how easy life can be.
Side effects:
Reduced gastric emptying will mean you toilet less frequently (for me this was great as I have a diagnosis of rapid gastric emptying).
Mild nausea for 8-16 hours after the first two dosages (no where near as severe as melanotan).
Forgetting to drink. Given hunger and thirst are related it can make you forget to drink so be a bit more cautious of this.
Thoughts on the drug:
I think within the modern day where obesity and metabolic disease is a massive contributor to disease and death that semaglutide is as close to a panacea as we will see medicinally. We are operating on neurological and physiological architecture designed to suit a world where food was SCARCE and people died from STARVATION. We are now seeing people die of the exact opposite of this. Therefore, semaglutide through correcting our eating habits is the “patch update” we have needed to help us navigate an environment rich in calories and eliminate some of the discomfort and massive effort some people have to exact to avoid over eating. One issue would be that if a person did not track their protein they could experience atrophy due to not eating sufficient protein to support their muscle mass.
In summary, if you want to re-train your appetite, make prep or dieting easier, then this is a fantastic tool for your goals.
