Today I received this plaque for my Super Lawyers Rising Stars award. It has been a wild ride starting The Gulf Stream Law Firm PLLC. From testifying in Tallahassee against the atrocious Senate Bill 2A, to exposing the sickening, fraudulent practices of some insurance companies on Hurricane Ian claims, this year has been the most rewarding and eye-opening journey of my professional career. I promise that I will continue to fight relentlessly for Florida property owners affected by wrongfully denied or underpaid insurance claims.

Insurers slashed Hurricane Ian payouts far below damage estimates, documents and insiders reveal After Hurricane Ian, Florida insurance companies have been aggressively seeking to limit payouts by altering the work of licensed adjusters trained to assess damaged homes, according to a Washington Post investigation. As a result, homeowners are left footing most of the bill for repairs.

As of November 2, 15.5% of Hurricane Ian homeowner property claims (~65,500 claims) were closed without payment. It has only been a month since the Hurricane! There are also still over 250,000 open claims that have had no insurance payment. Who else finds these numbers alarming? 🙋‍♂️ 🙋‍♀️

As we approach the Florida special session, citizens need to be aware that Plaintiff attorneys are the target. The legislature will push to take away the attorney fee statute.

Currently, Florida homeowners have the ability to pursue their insurance companies when the companies wrongfully underpay or deny claims. Once successful, the insurance companies are responsible for paying the homeowner's attorney fees and costs.

Without the attorney fee statute, homeowners will have to either pay an attorney hourly or on a contingency basis. However, is that viable if your claim is for $10,000, $20,000, or even $100,000? Sadly, no!

To take a case through trial it very often takes six figures of attorney fees and costs depending on the complexity of the case. It typically takes 18 months of litigation to even get to trial. Without an attorney fee statute, there is no pressure on an insurance company to settle a case quickly. Without an attorney fee statute, the only viable property damage cases are either catastrophic losses at giant multimillion-dollar homes or commercial properties. Without an attorney fee statute, homeowners are left with no recourse.

Insurance companies like to blame the Plaintiff attorneys for all of the property damage litigation in Florida. However is the current insurance litigation climate surprising given that over 15% of Hurricane Ian homeowner claims have already been closed without payment? And that number is not going down since there are still 250,000+ open claims without payment!

Hello Everybody,
Our friends in the restaurant business have been some of the hardest hit by the hurricane. These two particular restaurants are both closed at this time but between them they had over 100 employees. Some of these employees and their families lost everything including their income so getting back on their feet is more difficult than imaginable. Lobster Lady with the help of our dear friends at Gulf Stream Law and Performance Food Group would like help give these employees and their families a boost in the right direction. Our group will be covering the cost of everything so all sales and donations will directly benefit the families. We cannot do enough to make an impact without your help, so we would greatly appreciate you showing up. If you cannot make it to Bubba's on Sunday then we have set out donation boxes at Lobster Lady. A couple bucks from each of our Lobster Lady regulars could mean food, clothing, and a roof for some people that need it right in your neighborhood.
