Passion
Since starting my first business at 20 (and successfully exiting it 3 yrs later), I’ve had over a dozen, and have provided valuable startup assistance to hundreds of others. Every single business plan I’ve written has been funded, raising $millions (for myself and others). As a project manager, I’ve helped develop bleeding-edge technologies (in simulation, virtual reality, transportation, software and consumer electronics), some of which were decades ahead of their time. My experience, and research, has come to a conclusion: Entrepreneurs need all the help they can get. I’ve seen far too many aspiring entrepreneurs quit too soon, fail too soon, go bankrupt, get divorced, lose their kids, not have a life, etc. And I know why. Bad management. Particularly, bad project management. PM is, without doubt, THE most important skill set for a successful enterprise. And, the most overlooked!
Few projects are as difficult to successfully complete as establishing and operating a successful business. It takes far more risk, creativity, initiative and resilience than mere mortals are willing to endure. They don’t call us the “1%” for nothing. However, I’ve found that utilizing good project management practices has an exponentially greater (positive) affect on whether or not a startup will last 5-10 years, or just 8 months (like they typically do in Orlando). Actually doing your homework, studying how others (in your field) were successful, emulating their processes, and understanding your market(s) has a surprising result - success!
Unfortunately, the vast majority of people who call themselves, “entrepreneur” and/or “project manager”, don’t have a clue about what good project management is really all about. I’ve had PMPs with decades of experience come up to me, after teaching a little 1-1/2 hour “Intro to Good Project Management” class, wringing their sore hands, with a BIG smile, complaining about all the notes they took (and wanting to set up a follow-up Meal with a Mentor™). So many aspiring entrepreneurs are just enamored with starting a business, that they spend precious little time looking at Gary V videos, and think they can be successful. If that’s what you’re willing to do to make decisions that will affect the rest of your life, knock yourself out. If you wanna be successful, there are no shortcuts. The words, “If you fail to plan, plan to fail” are a truism of the highest order.
So, I’ve resurrected my consulting practice from the ‘90s. And I have all the processes and lessons in place, to help you to: Learn. Plan. Disrupt. Make it so.
