Congratulations to all of our CLA graduates! You did it!
Jamie Donmoyer, a writer, director, and performer who has been educating through puppetry for 25+ years came to campus to provide workshops for our faculty and students. She trained with internationally renowned puppet artists and with the Kennedy Center and Dr. Mary Palmer as an arts integration specialist. Jamie has spent thousands of hours working in classrooms, community centers and after school programs and training educators throughout Florida, New York and Pennsylvania in creative ways teach and learn. As a professional puppeteer, Jamie has performed on Sesame Street and Disney's Johnny and the Sprites, and toured live shows throughout Central Florida. She established her company Humor with a Heart with fellow creative Leslie Carrara-Rudolph (Sesame Street's Abby Cadabby) to help people navigate life creatively.
Jamie was invited by the Department of Education at Rollins College to conduct two Puppet Pedagogy Workshops in April, guiding Education students on integrating puppetry into their future classrooms. The first workshop, held at the Faculty Club on April 11th, focused on creating and performing three puppet styles using basic materials. In the second workshop at KWR 340 on April 18th, students learned to construct puppets from pool noodles, pipe cleaners, and craft foam, encouraged to infuse each with distinct personalities and styles. These sessions provided hands-on experience in puppet making, storytelling, and performance, empowering future educators to explore puppetry as a teaching tool under Jamie's expert guidance as a professional puppeteer and arts integration specialist.
Recently our students attended a Florida Teacher Certification Examinations (FTCE) Workshop facilitated by faculty and students.
The FTCE Exam Workshop, sponsored by KDP, took place on April 10th at 4:30 pm in Bush 176. The presentation panel featured five Education students who recently passed FTCE exams. They shared insights with their peers, discussing major challenges, study strategies, tips, and useful resources that aided them in preparing for and successfully passing the three FTCE exams, including GK, PEd, and SAE. Attendees had engaging conversations with the panelists regarding FTCE exams and also enjoyed pizza and drinks provided during the event.
The Department of Education has been busy the last few weeks! In early April students enjoyed meeting and listening to the 2024 Florida Teacher of the Year, Adrianna Swearingen. Our faculty and students were very thankful for her inspirational talk on how to "Shine Bright for Florida Students" and the discussion that followed.
