As a reminder - parking policies are now being fully enforced. It is expected that all vehicles have the appropriate decals or hang-tags on them while on College property and that your vehicle is in the specified lot or garage.

If you unfortunately receive a citation, do not ignore it - it does not go away, late fees will accrue. Utilize the student-led, parking appeals committee to have your situation reviewed.

Students who have brought, or are planning on bringing, vehicles to campus. Please submit your online application as soon as possible. This will allow our staff time to process them and have your decals ready for when you arrive on campus. Some key notes:

- We are open 24x7, so picking up your decal during "off" hours is a great idea.

- First year students, your decal only permits you to park in the Truist Garage.

- If you are a returning student and have a full-year decal from last year, your vehicle is still covered under that decal until August 31.

- While we will try to be as understanding as possible for the next week or so, parking will be enforced - especially in visitor spaces, handicap spaces, fire lanes, and anytime you are blocking traffic.

See the MyRollins page under Campus Safety and Parking. But, please call us at 407-646-2999 or send us an email at [email protected] if you have any questions.

Faculty and staff are reminded that the following days are "move-in" days for our students and we strongly recommend that they park in either of the two garages.

Friday, August 16
Monday, August 19
Tuesday, August 20
Wednesday, August 21
Friday, August 23
Saturday, August 24

Additionally, due to construction of the East End Neighborhood and safety concerns, Tiedtke Way will be ONE WAY only - from the Rollins Museum of Art Circle out to Ollie Avenue and Sutton Place Apartments, on August 20,21,23, and 24.

We encourage everyone to plan ahead, leave extra time, and drive with great care as it will be congested and traffic patterns may change. Thank you and take care.

While there has been some grace and leniency extended to those on campus over the summer with respect to parking, we have one of our first large groups of students returning this weekend. Please ensure you have an up todate decal, it is affixed properly to your vehicle, and that you park in the appropriate locations on campus according to your status (faculty, staff, or student) and dictated by signage. Remember, if you qualify for a decal, you are not a "visitor" to our campus.

If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact Campus Safety at 407-646-2999 or [email protected] . Thank you for your cooperation.

This coming Friday, August 16, will be the first move-in day for the 24-25 Academic Year. Students serving in the role of either Peer Mentor or Residential Assistant will be moving in to their respective buildings.

While the number of students is not as great as some of the other move-in days, each residential building will have some students moving in. This means increased traffic, congestion, and perhaps some delays. We would advise faculty and staff to consider either the Rollins or Truist Parking Garages, as parking options.

Thank you for your cooperatinon in facilitating this for our students.

As we quickly approach the start of the academic year and students moving on to campus, it is important to remember that all members of the campus community must have a parking decal affixed to their vehicle to park on campus. Students are highly encouraged to apply for the decal online prior to arriving to campus, allowing plenty of time for processing. Upon arrival to campus, it will only take a few moments to show ID and pick up your decal.

Additionally, please take note that the Campus Safety office has moved from the office near the Rollins Garage to the old Annie Russell Dance Studio located in the back of the Hauck parking lot, adjacent to Hauck Hall. We are available 24x7 to help support the safety and security needs of the campus.

The Campus Safety Department would like to share our appreciation to the campus community for the outpouring of support following the unexpected passing of one of our staff members, Marlon Dragton. Below is a note from his wife, Angie, who wanted to share her sentiments. Thank you.

Dear Rollins Family,

I am Marlon Dragton’s wife Angie, and I am writing this to express our deepest gratitude for the overwhelming support and kindness extended to us during the difficult time of grieving our loss.

Your outpouring of love, sympathy, and assistance has touched our hearts profoundly. From the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank each and every one of you who reached out to offer condolences, support, and various forms of help. Your acts of kindness have provided immense solace to our grieving community.

During times of loss, it becomes evident how much strength lies in the bonds of community. Your willingness to come together and support one another exemplifies the true spirit of unity and compassion. We are incredibly grateful to be part of such a caring and supportive community.

As we continue to navigate through this period of mourning, please know that your support has made a significant difference in helping us find comfort and healing. While the pain of our loss remains, your kindness has been a source of light in our darkest moments.

Once again, thank you for your unwavering support, love, and kindness during this difficult time. We are forever grateful.

With heartfelt appreciation,

Angelique Dragton

Rollins College Campus Safety and the Chi Psi Fraternity collaborated to collect toys and toiletries for the Winter Park Police Department's Helping Others Holiday Drive. Today, we were able to provide more than 60 items to be distributed to less fortunate members of the Winter Park community. This was a great way to have collaboration between a student organization, a department on campus and the City of Winter Park.

Please help us identify the owner of the red bicycle in this photo. It was located in the bike rack on the Ollie side of Sutton Place Apartments.

This morning, Campus Safety staff confronted a person in the process of stealing the bike. Luckily, they only cut the lock, but we were able to stop the theft and recover the bike.

If you know the owner, please ask them to come to the campus safety office.

Dear Rollins Community –

The Rollins Wellness Center would like to share information regarding three common viral illnesses that could impact you and those around you, as well as steps to help protect you and the community around you. With all respiratory illnesses, it is recommended that you stay home if you are ill, wear a mask around others, and seek medical treatment.

1. Influenza – a viral respiratory illness that circulates from September-May, peaking during the months of December until February. The best flu prevention is a getting a yearly flu vaccine. Flu vaccines are available at the Wellness Center on a walk-in basis on Tuesdays and Thursday from 8:30-10:30 am, or call for an appointment 407-628-6340. For more information about the flu click here.

2. COVID-19 – is on the rise in Central Florida. The best form of prevention is to stay up-to-date on vaccinations. An updated booster designed to combat recent viral variants is expected to be available mid to late-September at local retail pharmacies. For more information about COVID-19, click here.

3. R.S.V. also known as respiratory syncytial virus – usually causes mild cold symptoms, except for young children and older adults who might experience more severe symptoms. The respiratory virus circulates during the winter months. If you are 60 years old or over it is recommended you receive the RSV vaccine this fall. For more information about RSV, click here.

Thank you for doing your part to help keep our community safe.

Students are reminded that today is the last day decals from last year are valid. Plenty of grace time has been provided to students to obtain a valid parking permit for the year.

Starting tomorrow, Campus Safety Officers will be enforcing parking regulations on campus.

If you receive a citation and believe it was issued improperly, you can file an appeal with the student-run appeals committee within the first two weeks. If you do nothing with the citation for two weeks, a late fee will be added and then charged to your student account.

Parking will be enforced 24x7, so please do not assume you will not receive a citation after returning to campus late at night or early in the morning for a practice.

If you have any questions, please refer to our parking policies, which can be found at My Rollins, by emailing us at [email protected] , or calling us at 407-646-2999.

Conditions on campus are rainy and breezy with occaisional squall lines coming through from the outer rain bands of Idalia. We have had minimal reports of issues overnight and staff are walking areas that have historically had water intrusion issues. Overall, we are very grateful that this storm is tracking well north of us. Best wishes to all those who may be in the path or who may be impacted more significantly.

Our EOC is at a partial activation level and will be meeting this morning.

Please continue to check emergency.rollins.edu for updates, FAQ's, etc.

08/28/2023

Please continue to check emergency.rollins.edu for more information on Tropical Storm Idalia.

08/26/2023

Forecast confidence continues to increase for a tropical disturbance (AL93). An area of low pressure currently in the northwest Caribbean is likely to develop (90% chance) into a tropical system as it moves northward into the eastern Gulf of Mexico late this weekend and early next week.

It still remains too early to determine the exact impacts to east-central Florida, heavy rainfall looks to be the main threat. The eventual track will have significant bearing on rainfall amounts and distribution, including peak amounts. The current rainfall forecast is 1-3 inches for our area, with locally higher amounts up to 5-6 inches possible. Flooding rain may overcome recent rainfall deficits, and result in localized flooding. Tropical winds, wind gusts, and isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out for parts of east-central Florida.

Over the coming days, closely monitor for changes to the forecast and be ready to act.

Additionally, please take advantage of the Florida Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax running through September 8, 2023.

Please take a moment to review your individual and departmental plans and procedures.

08/24/2023

It is being reported to law enforcement across the Orlando metro area that there is a significant uptick in the number of college students who are being extorted by unknown people they met online. After engaging in online conversations, the students share explicit photos of themselves with the scammers who then threaten to share them with family, friends, their institution, etc. Only when they are paid in gift cards do they back off and leave the student alone.

This specific issue was covered in first-year student orientation with Campus Safety. Do not share private or intimate photos of yourself online as it is nearly impossible to retrieve them or to keep them private.

We strongly suggest not sharing private information, to include your specific address, banking information, social security number, etc. with those who you only have an online relationship with.

If you find yourself caught up in a scam like this, please contact Campus Safety, Title IX or others on campus who can work with you and provide support or options, either on or off campus.

08/21/2023

While you might feel some urgency to pick up your parking decal or new/replacement R-Card, please know that the Campus Safety office is open 24x7. We anticipate 1130a-1p and from 3-6p being extremely busy. To avoid longer wait times, please consider stopping by either very early or late in the day.

Remember if you need us, you can send an email to [email protected] or program 407-646-2999 into your cell phone.

Here is to a great academic year.
