Most of us know someone who has been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease, whether it’s touched our own family or a friend’s loved ones. Nationally, November is known as Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month.
Although everyone experiences a change in brain function as they age, what occurs with Alzheimer’s disease is not a normal part of aging. Alzheimer’s is a progressive neurodegenerative disease, which means it gets worse over time, and the person affected eventually loses the ability to accomplish daily tasks.
Whether it’s during November or any other time of the year, understanding Alzheimer’s disease can improve the quality of life for those with previously undiagnosed Alzheimer’s.

Wishing everyone a safe and Happy Halloween!🎃

A healthy diet, Vitamin D, healthy lifestyle and weight bearing and strength training exercises can help prevent osteoporosis. reminds us to show our bones some love, especially as we age.

Music is a powerful force that evokes strong emotions, brings back heartwarming memories, and provides a way to express yourself. With this type of impact, it’s not surprising that music can be an effective tool for therapy.
The field of music therapy has grown tremendously in the past century. Older adults can especially benefit from listening to music, as it gives them an outlet for creativity, socialization, and mental stimulation.

Injuries from falls can vary in severity but often result in a traumatic brain injury or a hip fracture. If you take care of your overall health, you may be able to lower your chances of falling. Most of the time, falls and accidents don't "just happen," according to the National Institute on Aging.
Here are a few tips to help you avoid falls and keep you safe:
-Stay physically active.
-Sign up for a fall prevention class with your local recreation center or senior center.
-Have your eyes and hearing tested.
-Know your medications.
-Get enough sleep.
-Stand up slowly.
-Use an assistive device if you need help feeling steady when you walk.
-Wear non-skid, rubber-soled, low-heeled shoes, or lace-up shoes with non-skid soles that fully support your feet.
-Always tell your doctor if you have fallen since your last checkup, even if you aren't hurt when you fall.
