With a heavy heart, we are sad to inform our Zerba members that our General Manager Dan Paynter passed away last week, due to a recurrence of cancer.

Dan has been the face of Zerba in Dundee and throughout the northwest at various festivals since his days as a sales manager. He moved into the role of Tasting Room Manager in 2009 when the Dundee tasting room opened. He rose to the role of General Manager in 2019.

Please save the date of June 29th to help us celebrate Dan at the annual Zerba Club Member Picnic at the Oregon Lavender Farm. We will all raise a glass to toast Dan and honor his life – we will have a memory book for you to share your own memories of Dan. More details to follow.

Hi Folks! Having a good summer? Keeping cool? If you haven't heard, we have our new patio pounder, the Sangiovese Rose' 2022. Nice watermelon nose, citrusy taste, and an orange zest to finish.

Ooh, I forgot the question last time about what in the heck is Bordeaux blend?
Answer: It is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Then there is a touch of Malbec, Petite Verdot. These grapes have their heritage in Bordeaux, France. Hence the term. To taste, one should find black current, black cherry, graphite, chocolate, dried herbs. Pair this with a slightly salted/peppered steak. We like to think it goes with just about everything or all by itself! Guess which wine we have that includes all these tasty treats? You are right: Wild Z Red!

The big question here is do 'Father's" like wine? Well, yes they do! Don't forget June 18 is his day to relax, too. C'mon on in and we will certainly spoil the "deer" of your life.

Now the answer to last question of the post: Why are bottles green?
It helps in the fermentation process. Shucks, too easy, eh?

Ok, last post asked about that indentation on the bottom of the wine bottle: this is called a PUNT. During early glassblowing of the bottles, the blowing point was pushed inward. This made the bottle stand up straight. Some say it was to establish some structural glass integrity. Now, it may help pouring with one hand. Maybe. Looks cool, eh? However, it is said that it helps distributing the pressure in sparkling wines. So, there you have it...
Next question: Why are wine bottles predominately green?
