🗓This week we marked the 17th of Tammuz, a significant fast day that begins the three weeks of mourning for the destruction of the First and Second Holy Temples.
This period of reflection and remembrance began in 69 CE when the walls of Jerusalem were breached by the Romans. The Three Weeks will culminate with Tisha B’Av on August 13th.

A Pier Built to be a Stage - Providence 06/05/2024

Remember the US paid for pier that was supposed to alleviate hunger in Gaza and which broke apart last week? Here’s a look at what the pier actually represented and why it was a bad idea.

We join with Israel in marking the loss of former foreign minister David Levy who died yesterday at the age of 86.
Born in Morocco and coming to Israel in 1957, Levy was a champion of the rights of Israel’s Mizrachi Jews. He made Israel a better place.
May his memory be for a blessing.

We thought hard and really tried to find the words to describe how heartbroken, shocked, and enraged we are in light of the new abduction video of the five female observers. There truly are no words to describe what they did or how they did it. The sadistic, diabolical, barbaric torment that our women endured while treating them like prizes and trophies, just plain objects to do with as they please. All the while praising themselves for their inhumane and monstrous accomplishments.
All we know is that no human should have to spend a single moment with them, let alone 229 days.
It has never been more clear how urgent it is to bring them home. Now!

The RZA-Mizrachi joined with 60 other Jewish groups in a letter to the House of Representatives urging the chamber to take up antisemitism bill.

“The bill, which has bipartisan support in both the House and Senate, would implement a dedicated White House coordinator for antisemitism, among a series of other steps to improve and coordinate federal efforts to fight antisemitism. The legislation has become something of a political football in recent weeks amid partisan debates over antisemitism and Israel legislation.”

Some reflections on Yom HaZikaron 05/12/2024

RZA President Stephen Flatow writes about Yom HaZikaron and its effect on terror victims’ families.
“life includes both the honey and the sting, the bitter and the sweet; and we must embrace them both, because we cannot edit reality.”

Some reflections on Yom HaZikaron American victims of Palestinian Arab terror should be looked at a bit differently than other terror victims because their government has let them down. Although I have suffered from that injustice, Yom Hazikaron calms me down. Op-ed.

Lost in the negotiations with the leadership of Hamas is the organization's ultimate goal. They are masters of manipulation, who have managed to portray Israel as intransigence and heartless. It behooves us to examine Hamas objectives, which they openly avow in the Hamas Covenant 1988.

A Nishmat partner for almost 30 years, he spoke to the students on May 8th about the life of his daughter Alisa Flatow HY"D, who was brutally murdered in a terrorist attack in 1995 while studying at Nishmat.
He told the women: "Nishmat is the best investment I made in my life, because the dividends are not in cash, they are in souls. I invested in you, in the women who came before you and those that will come after you." Simon Wiesenthal said many good things. This is one of them.

Where are the good people?
Are you doing everything to bring the hostages back to their homes?
For over seven months, the hostages have been enduring horrible conditions in captivity in Gaza.
We are committed to support their families and continue with the efforts to release them in every way possible because we have no other choice!

Our Story

The Religious Zionists of America (RZA), the American branch of World Mizrachi – Hapoel Hamizrachi movement, is an ideological and educational organization that aims to instill in the American Jewish community a commitment to Religious Zionism.

Mizrachi (a Hebrew abbreviation of merkaz ruchani – “spiritual center”) was founded by Rabbi Isaac Jacob Reines in 1902 to serve as an umbrella organization for the Religious Zionist movement. Religious Zionism is an ideology based on the synthesis of a Jewish religious and national outlook and is dedicated to the preservation of Jewish political freedom, the enhancement of Jewish religious life in the land of Israel, and the promotion of Aliyah. The movement is inspired by the slogans of Mizrachi, “The Land of Israel, for the People of Israel, According to the Torah of Israel,” and Hapoel Hamizrachi, “Torah Va’Avodah” (Torah and Labor).

In a world of shifting commitments to Zionism, the RZA is the sole organization whose singular mission is to be an engine of pro-Israel advocacy, educational programming, and the driving force behind the organized leadership of the Orthodox community in its quest for activities on behalf of the State of Israel.

The RZA seeks to reach all segments of the American Jewish population through adult educational programming in regional chapters, pro-Israel advocacy, promoting aliyah, strengthening and developing a creative curriculum on religious Zionism for Jewish day schools, and encouraging the knowledge and use of Hebrew as an important modality of expression.

Religious Zionists are uniquely positioned to articulate a theological argument for Zionism to the full spectrum of the American Jewish population. The ideals of Torah im Derech Eretz and Torah u’Madah are part and parcel of the vision of religious Zionism. By fostering an ideology of both we strive to transmit, by living example, to American and Israeli Jews the power inherent in the amalgamation of Torah values in the modern world. By educating about and supporting programs that promote these values and ideas, RZA can help confront some of the challenges that Zionism faces in Israel, including clarifying the relationship between Judaism and democracy, and enhancing the Jewish character of the State of Israel.
