Raising awareness and support for pediatric transplant patients and their families. When do you first think about being an organ donor?

When you get your driver's license? Most people don't think about it until then. Where do the organs for children come from then? You can't take an adult heart or kidney and put it into a child. This was something that hadn't dawned on us either. Bronco Reese was born in 2006 with four congenital heart defects. Surgery tried to correct some of the problems but in 2012, Bronco was placed on the hea

Update:
We took a ride this morning to The Orchard Church , in Waynesville, NC, along with our first check to the sweet family we adopted!! Thanks so much for the outpouring of support We are excited to keep y’all posted on their progress as we go along the next few months with them. Remember we are in this for the long haul and will be contributing to help them as they rebuild their home. We had a little hiccup on the way, blue light special but totally worth it to be a part of a blessing today. Great service and good to connect with Josh Frazier too. Keep this community in your prayers as they continue to sort through the many next steps to restoration.

So we are 1 month post hurricane Helene. Most of you know we took a load of fuel, water, and clothes to WNC and now we have reached out to help a specific family. We were introduced to Josh and Leah and their 3 girls. Here is a picture of their home before and after the storm. By the grace of God they are all okay but as you can see Grace is the only thing they made it out with. We would like to help this family over time but we would like to raise a few thousand dollars to help them with whatever it is they need. We will make additional post to update the progress and let you know what they need next. If you could donate anything I know they will appreciate it. You can go to broncosheart.org and click on donate, Venmo Bronco's Benevolent Foundation or write a check. If you need more information please reach out to us. Thanks and let’s show these people some love!

Today is pretty significant. Nine years ago we were praying for a miracle. Our son needed a heart transplant and the rest of us needed a change of heart. And God delivered. Bronco was nine when he received his transplant and nine years later he is living out his life becoming an adult.
Becoming an adult….words we feared would never be spoken. We only thought we knew what we up against, but we had no idea. Add the fact that someone had to make a very difficult decision to grant our son this opportunity and the whole process is mind blowing and emotional. I could write a book on all the thoughts that cross my mind this morning as I praise God for this milestone. We get to head to the hospital in the next week or two and deliver things to help others along the way. We have been able to fund more specific needs the past two years. Only because of you, our support community could that be possible. Much love y’all. Joanna Reese

The first photo was two days before the surgery, and the second was this past January. Almost one hundred pounds heavier!!!

He’s home ladies and gentlemen!!! I’m sure he will post all about it tomorrow! Keep praying for the ones still headed home!!

Our Story

When do you first think about being an organ donor? When you get your driver’s license? Most people don’t think about it until then. Where do the organs for children come from? You can’t take an adult heart or kidney and put it into a child. Bronco Reese was born in 2006 with four congenital heart defects which resulted in his heart transplant April of 2015. Pediatric organ transplant offers many challenges to the young patients and their families. Our mission is to raise the awareness of pediatric organ donation and to improve the journey for pediatric transplant patients and their families. Scott, Joanna, and Bronco formed Bronco’s Benevolent Foundation in 2013. Our work involves discovering individual financial needs of each family, ranging from travel and food expenses, to paying for devastating funeral costs. We host benefit motorcycle rides, fundraising parties, gather food and other donations for the families, and visit patients awaiting organ transplants to encourage them during their challenging transplant experience. The foundation has assisted in kitchen construction on the Cardiac Step Down Unit at CHOA’s Egleston Campus and currently has a gas card program for long term patients at the same location. Anything we can do to lighten the load and bring awareness to the cause is what we are dedicated to do.
