High temps are expected to continue around triple digits into next week. Please take precautions and stay safe

☀️HEAT ADVISORY in effect noon Friday through 10 pm Sunday. U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts temps as high as 105 degrees.
👉Safety precautions include stay hydrated, stay out of the sun, check on relatives and neighbors.
🚗Children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances, especially during hot weather!

Temps are expected to continue to be at or near triple digits into next week. Remember to drink plenty of fluids, try to stay out of the sun and check on relatives and neighbors. Know the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

A reminder from the City of Yakima that Harman and Washington Fruit Community centers are not designated cooling centers.

Personal use of fireworks in the City of Yakima is illegal. Even though they are banned, each year fireworks cause fires and injure people in the City and surrounding areas. In 2023, the Yakima Fire Department responded to 27 fireworks-related incidents.

Police departments, sheriff’s offices and first responders across the county are reminding folks that calling 911 is not the best way to report illegal fireworks as it can overwhelm dispatch calls and can cause delays for emergency responders.

To report illegal fireworks in the City, please call 509-248-4020.

Only call 911 about fireworks IF you see:
• Imminent threat to people or property, for example fireworks being directed at people or property.
• Someone needing medical attention.
• Fireworks causing anything to smolder or start on fire.

FRIDAY, JUNE 21, 2024 – The American Red Cross will open an emergency evacuation center in response to the Keys Road Fire burning in Yakima County. The center will open at 4:00 p.m. at Terrace Heights Elementary School. All individuals under level 3 evacuations are asked to get to safety immediately. Anyone in the surrounding area is asked to monitor evacuation levels closely and be prepared to leave.

Then heading North on University Place Parkway to the intersection of North Keys Road and University Place Parkway.
