For Families of Active Military's Mission Statement: FFAM endeavors to offer stability, strength and support to the military and families of active military on an emergency and proactive basis, whether it be physicial, emotional or financial.
We have been approached by individuals interested in including FFAM in their estate plans, and we are seeking guidance on how to facilitate this. Is there a trust attorney in our community who can assist us with this process? Someone who appreciates the work we're doing for our military and their families? If you know of someone, please have them contact me at 714-403-7165 or [email protected]. We would love to make this information available to everyone.

Three years ago yesterday prior to Retiring the Colors from flying the 13 US Flags for 13 days, six of us met this plane carrying the Marines from the 2/1, the unit who lost the Marines during the tragic withdrawal from Afghanistan on August 26th 2021. We had sandwiches, chips, cookies, candy, fruit and water, while they waited for the plane to be unloaded and the busses loaded for their trip to Camp Pendleton. They were a sad and tired group, but were happy to be home.
Bragging rights; my nephew, Ryan Jones is a fireman with the Santa Fe Springs FD and he and 4 fellow firefighters traveled to New York to pay respect and participate in the memorial of those killed by terrorists 23 ago today. They were with Ladder 10 today. What a fabulous man!
They are hard at work! Yay! The smoke has been so bad that they have been unable to work.
For those of you who have visited the Re-Entry Lodge the top photo is from Rim Forest as you drive to the Blue Jay cutoff. So far, we are not in imminent threat, but remain at Level 2 “get ready “. Huge thanks to all of our Emergency Responders!!! 🙏
🔥🔥🔥
We evacuated our visiting Soldiers from Fort Irwin today out of an abundance of caution due to the fire. Hiway 330 and parts of 18 are closed near Running Springs and Arrowbear. So what do you do when you displace them, Disneyland of course! Got them settled in a hotel and tickets to Disneyland! Thanks for the assist Disney!! Huge thanks to Christine Winicki for taking care of our soldiers and for rescuing some of our treasured items given to us from our military off the walls. I really don’t think anything is going to happen, but we can replace furniture, but not our treasures. You are a gift Christine Winicki Drc! Keep your thoughts and prayers with our firefighters!🇺🇸
A Sad Road Traveled Three Years Ago….
Three years ago, many lives were changed forever. In the news, we learned that 11 Marines, 1 Soldier and 1Navy were killed, along with the many others who were injured by a su***de bomber at what would become known as Abbey Gate—a tragic event that marked the withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Never in my wildest imagination did I foresee the challenges ahead in helping our service members and the refugees, these refugees who had supported our military for 20 years. When I reached out to a friend of mine, an Army doctor, to see how FFAM could assist in the efforts, I was thankful that I wasn’t daunted by the undertaking, nor were our supporters.
We promptly placed 13 new United States flags, along with a Marine Corps flag, a Army flag and a Navy flag at the corner of Yorba Linda Blvd and Village Center Drive, flying them for 13 nights in honor of those killed. I must mention the dozens of volunteers who came out to help set up the flags and the necessary lighting to keep them illuminated all night long. It was a busy intersection, and we want to thank the Sheriff’s Department for providing security while we got the work done. It was a night filled with Patriotism as so many honked their horns and yelled out because they could see what we were doing. Yorba Linda residents began arriving that night to lay flowers, and they laid flowers at each flag, so they could honor each service member. As many did around the country, we also held a “13 Beer salute” at Stefano’s, where we were joined by our Mayor, Congresswoman Young Kim, and many community members.
Then came the “2 AM phone call.” While we were in San Francisco watching our grandchildren, I found myself on a 2 AM Zoom call with an Army Colonel in Italy and Army staff in Qatar. We concluded that the best way for FFAM to support their efforts was to purchase the supplies the refugees needed. Many of them arrived with nothing but the clothes on their backs; most had no shoes, they had soiled themselves, and the babies suffered from severe diaper rashes due to the lack of diapers and toiletries. While Qatar provided food and water, there were no supplies available, and the refugees were going to be moved to another base for ongoing support and living quarters.
With a three-day turnaround, our fundraising efforts needed to be quick, necessary, and successful! Our supporters raised approximately $20,000 in just three days! The Army staff did the shopping on the streets of Doha, Qatar using their personal funds, then they sent me photos of the purchased items along with the receipts. I would then reimburse them through Zelle, so they could continue shopping. The items purchased included shoes, undergarments, special clothing, diaper ointment, deodorant, toothpaste and brushes, and other necessities. This went on for several days until all the funds were exhausted.
To quote Margaret Mead, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed individuals can change the world; in fact, it’s the only thing that ever has.” While we may not have changed the world, our donors, supporters, volunteers, and the Soldiers on the ground in Doha, Qatar worked together to change the lives of those refugees who risked everything for many years in support of our military.
Our sincerest thanks to all who supported our efforts to support those on the ground and those who were lost. May they RIP and may their families reach some comfort knowing there are millions of us out here supporting them!
Three never to forget…..
