Victoria House Assisted Living
Victoria House Assisted Living is committed to the total well-being of each resident. Our compassion
Happy Labor Day from Victoria House! We hope you all have a wonderful holiday weekend! Thank you to the kitchen for our delicious cook-out meal, Lon G for a spectacular Labor Day Party performance, and to our activity girls for the scrumptious lemon raspberry milkshakes that we enjoyed during our party!
Hey night owls! We’re looking for LPNs! Check out the sign on bonus!
We have way too much fun playing some of our life-sized board games! This week, it was the Game of Life complete with theme songs for each resident, wedding rings and bubbles, graduations, crazy pets, and tons of laughs. Can’t wait for the next life-sized game!
Our residents and our co-workers safety is always a top priority!
Today at our Cheer's for Peers Meeting, our education was on Fire Safety and using a Fire Extinguisher. Thank you to our Maintenance Director, Kevin, for the hands-on experience of using an actual fire extinguisher to put out a real fire.
Everyone is enjoying both the beauty and produce from our resident gardens this year. As usual, our gardeners’ green thumbs are brightening up all of Victoria House!
Happy Root Beer Float Day! Of course, we had to celebrate this one! Thank you to Steve Sepesy for the superb accordion performance while we enjoyed our floats!
❤️
Thank you to Harmony Hospice for sponsoring the Kona Ice truck for our residents and staff! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed this special treat!
Grief can be overwhelming, but you are not alone.
Yesterday was the perfect day to be outside! So, we spent the entire day outdoors starting with a game of Taboo on the porch, followed by a picnic lunch at the park, and a competitive game of water balloon darts when we returned. Then everyone went back inside for Happy Hour now, but we sure had fun enjoying this beautiful weather all day!

Our residents aren’t only some of the kindest people you’ll ever meet, they’re also amazing athletes! Congratulations to all of our medalists today in our Victoria House Summer Olympic Games and to all of those who competed! Thank you to our judges, commentators, and spectators! What a wonderful display of athleticism and sportsmanship! Thank you also to Patriot at Home for sponsoring our Olympic drinks! Keep an eye on our page for an upcoming video of our Olympics scheduled to release at some point while the actual Summer Olympic Games are going on in France.
Which bear eats hot dogs? Weenie-the-Pooh
What did the hot dog say after getting first place? I’m the wiener!
In celebration of National Hot Dog Day, Danielle grilled hot dogs for her staff!
Last night, the rain tried to squash our fun! Thankfully, the Cortland Community Band is very adaptable and simply moved their concert indoors for us. Thank you to this great group of people for putting on such a wonderful performance! And thank you to our Victoria House activity girls for grilling us all hot dogs for the show!
While we are encouraged daily by praise from our peers, management, and corporate team here, our proudest moments come from those times that families and residents notice our compassionate care. Even more encouraging is when they spread the news of that good care around the community. This morning, Viki from Home Instead stopped in to surprise our Joel with a token of appreciation to thank him for the wonderful care that he provided for one of their clients who used to have a loved one at our facility. According to Viki, this family couldn’t say enough nice things about Joel and Victoria House, so Home Instead wanted to recognize this high quality of care. To top it all off, Joel’s Mom was in today to do her weekly volunteer work of providing hand massages for our memory care residents, so she got to witness her son receiving this wonderful recognition.
Our Betty turned 101 today! And what a sweet, wonderful, kind, and fun woman she is too! She started off her birthday with a rigorous exercise program this morning with Buckeye’s Physical Therapist, Tina, followed by a co****le and ladder-golf competition with her peers! This afternoon, we had a great time celebrating her birthday with music from Chris and Scott Miller and Ice Cream Sandwiches from Patriot. At 101, Betty is still one of the sharpest people around Victoria House! We look forward to her keeping us on our toes and laughing for many more years to come!
Happy Independence Day! Thank you for having the fireworks right over our building this year, Austintown! We sure did enjoy that! We’ve also been enjoying all kinds of other fun this week including patriotic nails, a trip to Whitehouse Farms, Red, White, & Blue sundaes, and music from Doug James.
What is it that realtors say? Location location location? We hit the location jackpot when it comes to watching fireworks! Check out our view from Sunday!
The sun was shining and the fish were biting today at our annual On Target Outfitters fishing outing hosted by Buckeye Hospice and Palliative Care Services. We loved spending the day outdoors and enjoying a delicious cook-out lunch from Buckeye! Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time to make this such a special day for our residents!
Some residents are with us for years and years and become family. And then there are some like Tom. Tom wasn’t with us long, but the length of time had no bearing on our affection for him. It was our pleasure to take care of him ❤️ Thank you to the Parker family for allowing us to get to know him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Thank you to CHS and Buckeye Hospice and Palliative Care Services for sending us to a Scrapper’s game today. What fun we had visiting the vendors at the stadium and watching our Mahoning Valley Scrappers play!
We want to honor all of our nurses’ assistants and all that they do for our residents. We have such a compassionate team of assistants and love watching them interact with the people whom they care for every day. Last week, they all received an appreciation gift for National Nursing Assistants’ Week.
With June being Dairy Month, we want to give a huge thank you to all of our hard working dairy farmers who keep us all well fed with the things we enjoy the most (like chocolate and ice cream)! Dairy Day is annually one of our most enjoyed celebrations here. Thanks to all who came out to make is so much fun including all of our families, the Girard Swing Band, and Kevin Lawson! Congratulations to Helen for winning our annual Dairy Dash competition!
Happy Father’s Day to all of the wonderful men out there who have made such a positive impact on all of us! We hope you have a great Father’s Day weekend! We celebrated Friday with strawberry shortcake, entertainment from Steve Sepesy, and gifts for all of our amazing men here at Victoria House.
After a stop at Handel’s, we all decided on a walk around Fellows Riverside Gardens to enjoy all of the gorgeous flowers. As we left, we were surprised by the most adorable fawn hiding under a tree right beside the driveway. What a delightful afternoon!
Our friends at Animal Charity of Ohio are in need of help! If you are not familiar with this organization, we can assure you they are wonderful! In fact, we have adopted at least five pups from there! If you would like to donate supplies, you can drop them off at any CHS building and we will take care of delivery!
Our Holly Jones and her husband enjoyed a trip to Land Between the Lakes in Kentucky as part of her being named employee of the year. Check out the gorgeous photos they captured.
We wanted to give everyone an update on our Heirloom Garden on our back hill. Everything that was planted last year is coming up beautifully, and our residents enjoyed their time planting perennial seeds today to add some summer-long color to the hillside. For those not familiar with this project, residents, staff, and their families have been dividing their own treasured plants and bringing them in to make a beautiful and meaningful garden on our back hill where we have our weekly summer campfire socials. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this project!
As we head into this holiday weekend, we want to extend our deep appreciation and condolences to the families of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our protection and freedoms. May we always remember and honor these fallen servicemen and servicewomen. Our Memorial Day activities at Victoria House will be going on all weekend and into next week. Please join us as we focus on remembering our fallen heroes and enjoy the many wonderful aspects of summer holiday weekends that their sacrifices have permitted us.
