It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we inform you of the passing of our colleague and friend, Jason McGraw. Jason passed away unexpectedly on March 31, 2023. We will all miss him more than words can express. Jason was not just our co-worker but our good friend as well. We will share with you the details regarding the funeral or memorial service as we hear more details from Jason’s family. Please keep Jason’s family in your thoughts as they go through this difficult time.

While global supply management problems delayed the project some, Zambrano credits the early actions of project partner Taylor Engineering as the reason students were able to begin classes in the facility at the start of the semester.

"There’s some magic in the air down here in South County, whether it’s Somerton or San Luis, there is a passion for education,” said Dr. Daniel Corr, president of Arizona Western College.

“For many years, the community has asked, requested multiple times a science lab in San Luis, Arizona and it gives me great pleasure to be able to share that for over a month and a half, our students have been enjoying biology classes and they are loving it,” AWC Associate Dean for South Yuma County Services Susie Zambrano said during the lab’s ribbon cutting ceremony.

Taylor Engineering recently completed the construction of the new AWC San Luis Science Lab that will bring much needed lab space to students in South Yuma County.

The lab will allow them to fulfill science requirements and even complete a Bachelor of Applied Science in Computer Informatics completely from the San Luis Learning Center.

The lab will also allow AWC to offer a Certified Nursing Assistant program in San Luis as the facility will include space for showers, storage, and laundry.

Assistance League of Yuma is staffed 100% by member volunteers. We support the following philanthropic programs in our community.
1) Operation School Bell providing new clothes to children in need kindergarten thru 8th grade. In 2019 we dressed 1300+ kids in Yuma County.
2) ALBY Bears provided to all our first responders in Yuma County to be given to children involved in traumatic situation.
3) Scholarships to AWC students in our vocational/technical programs.
4) We partner with Safe house to assist victims of assault.

Construction of a new science lab for the San Luis AWC campus. Metal stud framing by Taylor Engineering and a big shout out to Southwestern Steel & Supply for installing the structural steel. Next up plumbing and electrical.

Installation of new steel poles and overhead conductors to refeed a substation at YPG with 69kV overhead power.

Painted Rock Dam is a historic major flood control project in the Gila River Drainage Basin constructed in the late 1950's by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
