Police in the Southern Cape say an employee from the Oudtshoorn Municipality in the Little Karoo, has opened a charge of sexual assault against a senior colleague. Spokesperson, Malcolm Pojie, says the 37-year-old female laid the complaint against the person, who's name cannot be revealed as yet. It's alleged that the suspect accosted the victim in his office this week. Pojie says the suspect is said to have made promises of a higher post and allegedly touched the woman inappropriately. He says the investigation is ongoing.

The Cape Town Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit requests community assistance in locating a suspect, who can assist with a police investigation.

On Monday, 11 April 2022, at midday, an eight-year-old girl in school uniform was walking from her mother’s work to her home in Maitland. In 1st Avenue, an unknown silver in colour vehicle, driven by an African male approached her, lured her into his car and drove to Ndabeni Road under the bridge where he r***d her. The victim does not know the suspect.

He is a black male believed to be in his thirties or early forties, light of complexion, 1.80 meters tall, of medium build, with brown hair, and spoke Shona.

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in Manenberg after firing gunshots in the area. Police spokesperson, Weslet Twigg, says they responded to a tip-off from community members and searched the suspect in Duinefontein Road. He says they seized a point 38 revolver and ammunition. The suspect is expected to appear in court soon. Twigg says they also arrested a 26-year-old man for the illegal possession of 500 units of abalone on the N1 near Brackenfell. The man is expected to appear in court later this week.

Twelve taxi owners have been arrested for the intimidation and assault of City traffic officers in Brackenfell. The City's Kevin Jacobs says the taxi owners became unruly when officers tried to impound their vehicles. Four traffic officers were injured during the operation by the Transport Enforcement Unit. Jacobs says two traffic patrol vehicles were also damaged:

“Twelve taxi owners were arrested for intimidation and assault and one licensed 9mm firearm was recovered. The suspects were taken to Brackenfell Saps where case dockets were opened. Eleven taxis were impounded for operating without operating licences and two taxis were impounded at Brackenfell Saps.”

Police have arrested two suspects wanted on charges of murder in Kensington. One of the suspects, a 21 year old man was arrested on two cases of murder. Officers also confiscated a firearm, ammunition and drugs when they arrested a woman during an operation in the area. The officers went to the strong hold of a gang grouping in Matroos Square, Factreton. Police spokesperson Dawood Suliman says the suspects are expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate's court on Monday:

"A 25 year old man was also arrested for another murder case registered at Kensington SAPS. One female aged 23 was arrested on charges of possession of prohibited firearm, ammunition and drugs. The members seized one black Uzzi sub machine gun with serial number removed, 599 rounds of various ammunition, 1337 mandrax tablets, 796 grams of he**in, 23 packets methamphetamine, 79.16 grams of methamphetamine, 188 ecstasy tablets and 3.2 grams of ecstasy powder."

The Hawks have arrested two men and seized steroids from locations across Cape Town. Officers also uncovered a mandrax manufacturing facility. Hawks spokesperson, Zinzi Hani says officers confiscated steroids allegedly manufactured at a house in Rondebosch. A 36-year-old man was arrested. In Claremont, officers raided a storage facility where steroids and a press machine was discovered. A 38 year old suspect was arrested. Officers also seized steroids and enhancers in Thornton and Salt River. The suspects are expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court on Friday.

The Hawks has confiscated mandrax tablets worth about 800-thousand-rand during a search operation on the R60 near Robertson in the Boland. Hawks spokesperson, Zinzi Hani, says a 51-year-old man was arrested when officers found the drugs hidden in compartments in his vehicle. She says the suspect is expected to appear in the Worcester Magistrates Court tomorrow on charges of drug dealing.

A serial ra**st has been sentenced to seven life terms in the Strand Regional Court this week. Sinaye Siqhuma aged 29, preyed on female hitchhikers along the N2 highway near Grabouw and offered them a lift. Police spokesperson, Andre Traut says the hefty sentence is welcomed by SAPS management in the province:

"A thorough investigation by a SAPS detective led to the arrest of Siqhuma towards the end of December 2018. The well-prepared case dockets and DNA evidence were presented before court. He was convicted on seven charges of r**e and sentenced to life imprisonment on all seven charges. The sentences will be served concurrently and Siqhuma will effectively be confined to a prison cell for life."

The family of a murdered 25-year old woman from George in the Southern Cape has welcomed the sentences handed down to her killers. Hlompho Mohapi, a mother of two, was killed in July 2018. Pastor Melisizwe Monqo, his wife, Siphosihle Pamba and his cousin, Phumlani Qhusheka were found guilty on charges of murder, kidnapping and robbery with aggravating circumstances, in September this year. They murdered her to access a life insurance policy they had taken out on her behalf without her knowledge. Both Monqo and Qhuseka were sentenced to life imprisonment, and Pamba to 20 years, with all other sentences running concurrently. Mohapi's mother, Patricia Koloi, says they can try to find closure now:

“MAYBE I'LL FINALLY GET TO SLEEP, BECAUSE I COULDN'T SLEEP. EVERY TIME I SAW THESE DEVILS IN FRONT OF MY EYES I EVEN WENT TO ANOTHER CHURCH AND FOUND MYSELF DOUBTING GOD. BUT I'M HAPPY GOD STRENGTHENED ME TO THIS POINT. TODAY THEY WERE SENTENCED AND THEY GOT WHAT THEY DESERVED.”

The Hawks in Cape Town have arrested a 36-year old male at a house in Epping Street, Milnerton, for the possession of two unlicensed fi****ms and ammunition. Hawks Spokesperson, Zinzi Hani, says in the early hours of this morning members from the Hawks followed up on information about unlicensed fi****ms:

“On arrival at the house, a bag containing fi****ms and ammunition was discovered by the members outside the suspect's house. One suspect was arrested at the house. The suspect is expected to appear at Cape Town Central Magistrate Court on Monday on a charge of the possession of prohibited and unlicensed fi****ms and ammunition.”

The Hawks in the Western Cape have welcomed the conviction of Cape Town Law Enforcement Officer, Morne Horn for last year's shooting of an SAPS officer. Thirty-eight-year old, Constable Thandimfundo Sigcu, was arresting a suspect for a drug related offence when Horne shot and killed him on the scene. Sigcu was stationed at the Cape Town Central police station. Horn also shot the suspect who later died in hospital. Horn has been found guilty on two counts of murder. He will be sentenced on February the 24th.

A 68-year-old man has been arrested in Grassy Park for illegally trading in liquor. Police spokesperson, Joseph Swartbooi, says police confiscated liquor with an estimated value of R100 000. Swartbooi says they had initially been out on a call to another residence when they were diverted to the suspect's house:

“Upon searching a premises, they confiscated a consignment of liquor. While busy at the identified address, their attention was drawn to a house opposite the road. Upon inspection they discovered a huge amount of liquor stored in a room. Liquor with an estimated street value of R100 000 was confiscated. A 68-year-old man was arrested on a charge of illegal trading in liquor.”

Police have confiscated two unlicensed fi****ms and ammunition during separate incidents in Cape Town. Police spokesperson, Joseph Swaartbooi, says in one incident at Delft they responded to calls of a suspicious vehicle in Kaap Mount Street. They stopped the driver and searched the vehicle and found a revolver and ammunition. Swaartbooi says in another incident in Steenberg they stopped a suspect and upon searching his car found a pistol and ammunition. The suspects aged 36 and 37 will respectively appear in court on charges of illegal possession of fi****ms and ammunition.

Four people, including an off duty police officer, have been shot and killed in two separate incidents on the Cape Flats. Police spokesperson, Andre Traut, says two people were fatally wounded during a house robbery in Mfuleni while two others were killed when gunmen opened fire on a taxi in Langa. He says no arrests have yet been been made.

Three men have been gunned down in Delft. Police spokesperson, Novela Potelwa, says the victims are between 30 and 44 years old and believed to be from Crossroads near Nyanga. The motive for the killings is being investigated. Potelwa says no arrests have been made:

“The incident occurred on the corner of Sandelhout and Delft Main roads when unknown suspects opened fire on the deceased persons who are believed to be from crossroads. One died in the vehicle and two in the street as they were fleeing from the gunmen.”

Suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of cash during a bank robbery in Bellville in Cape Town's northern suburbs. Police spokesperson, FC Van Wyk says crime scene experts are still on the scene. Police are searching for two male suspects. Van Wyk says no one was injured during the robbery.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested for the possession of two fi****ms and ammunition at Delft in Cape Town. Police spokesperson, Wesley Twigg, says officers stopped an Uber in Roosendal when the driver indicated that there was a suspicious person in the vehicle. He says the suspect jumped out and tried to run but was apprehended. Twigg says officers seized two 9mm pistols with ammunition found in the bag. The suspect is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.

Ten suspects, linked to a fraud syndicate, have been arrested at Paarl in the Boland. Police spokesperson, Andre Traut, says they teamed up with investigators from financial institutions. He says nine men and a woman, aged between 23 and 41, were arrested at a filling station in Paarl. Traut says police seized cloned fuel cards, mostly linked to government vehicles, 14 cellphones, four vehicles and fuel slips. He says the female suspect is an intern employed by the police in Mitchells Plain and is being probed internally. The suspects are due to appear in court on Tuesday.

Western Cape police say they are requesting the public to assist them in locating the mother of a newborn baby that was abandoned in Bellville in Cape Town. They say the baby boy was found wrapped in a white and grey baby blanket earlier this month. He was left at Karoo Street in Oakdale. Police say the baby is in good health. A case of child abandonment is being investigated. Any person with information or enquiries is kindly requested to contact the investigating officer Detective Sergeant Reginald Wakefield on 073 511 5824 stationed at Bellville FCS on 021 590 1001 /1019 or 082 522 1095.

Eight Nigerian nationals are today appearing in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court to apply for bail. The court will also listen to extradition arguments. They were arrested last week for various Internet scams, money laundering and fraud in the city. The Hawks say the men aged between 33 and 52-years-old were arrested in an operation involving the Hawks, Special Task Force, K9 Unit, National Intervention Unit and Metro Police. Their case was postponed on Tuesday to today.

Police have found eleven kidnapped Ethiopian nationals at a storage facility in Meadowlands in Soweto in Gauteng. Five victims are from the Western Cape. The other six are from other provinces. Western Cape Police spokesperson Andre Traut says an Ethiopian national was kidnapped in Harare, Khayelitsha last month. He says investigations led detectives to Gauteng, following demands for ransom for the victim's safe return. Traut says two suspects have been arrested on charges of kidnapping and extortion:

"Two Ethiopian suspects aged 20 and 23 who were guarding the storage facility at the time of the raid were arrested and detained. They are expected to make their court appearance in Orlando on Monday morning where after they will be brought to the Western Cape to face the charges against them. The circumstances surrounding the extortion and kidnapping cases are still under investigation and the identities of the victims are not disclosed at this premature stage."

Two men have been shot and killed in the Strand, outside Cape Town. Police spokesperson, FC van Wyk says the bodies were found in an open field in the area. Van Wyk says no arrests have been made as yet:

“Strand police are investigating a double murder case after the bodies of two males aged 27 and 34 were discovered by community members lying on an open field with gunshot wounds in Strand earlier this morning. The circumstances surrounding this fatal shooting incident are under investigation. Anyone with any information about this shooting incident is kindly requested to contact the investigating officer Lieutenant Colonel FW Plaatjies on 021 854 9100.”

Three suspects have been arrested in Heideveld by the Metro Police for being in possession of a hijacked car. Metro police spokesperson Ruth Solomons says officers attached to the Special Operations Unit followed up on information of gang activities at a house in the area and searched the premises:

"The officers identified themselves and explained the reason for their presence. After permission was granted by the owner to search the premises, they encountered two male persons busy stripping a vehicle in the back yard. Further investigation revealed the vehicle was hijacked in Athlone yesterday. Three suspects aged between 27 and 53 were arrested and detained at Manenberg Saps."

City of Cape Town Mayco member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, says close to 50 fi****ms, imitation and zip-guns have been confiscated in the past few months. Smith says in the most recent incident a pistol was confiscated and three people arrested over the weekend after officers responded to gunshots fired in Bonteheuwel on the Cape Flats. Smith says between July and October close to 40 fi****ms, imitation fi****ms and three zip-guns have been confiscated by officers attached to the Law Enforcement Advancement Plan.

Eight foreign nationals aged between 33 and 52 have been arrested in Cape Town for alleged internet scams, money laundering and financial fraud world-wide. Hawks spokesperson, Katlego Mogale, says the arrests were made during a joint operation with the FBI, the United States Secret Service Investigations, Interpol, with assistance from various South African law enforcement agencies. The suspects are alleged to have ties to a transnational organised crime syndicate originating in Nigeria. It is alleged that these suspects preyed on vulnerable victims, such as widows or divorcees, who were led to believe they were in a genuine romantic relationships but were scammed out of their hard earned money - amounting to more than R100 million.

An ENCA news crew has been robbed at gunpoint by four suspects at Site B, in Khayelitsha, while they were covering a story for the upcoming Local Government Elections. ENCA reporter, Natalie Malgas,and her camera operator were robbed of their camera equipment and their cell phones. In a tweet, Malgas said she survived her "scariest day" on the job. She said they were safe now and were not harmed. Western Cape Police spokesperson, Colonel, André Traut, says the robbery is being investigated:

"The circumstances surrounding an armed robbery in Bangiso Drive Site B Khayelitsha are under investigation following an incident where four suspects robbed a 32 year-old television reporter and her cameraman of camera and electronic equipment. They fled the scene and are yet to be arrested. Any person who can shed light on the matter, or who can assist police with our investigation is requested to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111."

Police at Swellendam in the Southern Cape have arrested five suspects for alleged scamming activities after they were found in possession of speed point machines. Police spokesperson, Chris Spies, says they acted on a tip off and stopped a vehicle on the N2, seizing three speed point machines. Spies says the three occupants were unable to account for the possession of the machines and were arrested on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property. He says two other suspects were also arrested near Heidelberg for the possession of a speed point machine. All five suspects are expected to appear in the Swellendam Magistrates' court today.

Three suspects have been arrested following a fatal drive-by shooting at a birthday party in Mandalay on the Cape Flats. A 24-year-old woman died and seven others were seriously wounded and taken to hospital. Police spokesperson, Andre Traut, says the suspects will appear in court soon.

" In pursuit of the suspects, Anti-Gang Unit detectives conducted a tracing operation last night and arrested the suspects aged 22, 35 and 38 who are all from Mitchells Plain. Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their court appearances in Mitchells Plain on charges of murder and attempted murder "
