Water hyacinth!!
Yesterday while busy making Biochar and collecting same semi-dry water hyacinth, we saw this dog coming from the right side of the video.
It went straight into the river ( maybe it thought it was grass of land I have no idea) at first we thought maybe it's something it usually does but later realised it was struggling to swim back to shore that's when Akhona and Monde since they had their waders on ran to save it.
Moral of the story!
Help where ever you can!
1st week DONE!
We started our 6 months , Water hyacinth and reed harvesting.
The plan is to harvest, dry and process, carbonise it, charge it and then distribute the Biochar to 25+ local households that started their small vagitable gardens.
First wee done! We have close to 11 tons of biomass Water hyacinth and reeds.
Will make Biochar using both reeds and water hyacinth.
Char2Cool thank you for the support we are now able to be on site 5 days a week!! ENKOSI.

We wanted to check how much WHC ( water hyacinth) are we removing each time we volunteer.
2 people havested 18 bags ( each bags is 20kgs) in 1 hour and we usually do 3 hours a day , and 3 days a week.
That's alot of WHC!!

Winter is slowly approaching soooo we are now collecting the semi-dry water hyacinth from the river bank.
( we have a lot of it that we harvested these past few weeks)
We take it to our storage space to finish the drying process and the we carbonise it
And then we charge it using cow dung( it takes 2 weeks to change)
After that we supply it to our ( masilime sonke) "let's all farm" group of about 25 people from the community who are interested in starting their out veggie gardens.
Everyone in our organisation has their small gardens , so now we want to spread the massage of healthy living , planting you our vegetable.
Slowly , slowly we are getting there..

Hi everyone!
just a quick update,
Our ladies ( we are a group of about 20 volunteers with ladies and gents) wanted to try out weaving with the Water Hyacinth.
they played around with some ideas trying to come up with a simple design . .. they did a hat , a plate sitter and a fruit bowl πππ i think they are cute!
so we make Biochar and soon by the look of things we will have the ladies make beautiful products from the same plant.
Forward ever backwards never! Char2Cool
