Ever wondered about those little birds pecking away on large mammals? The Yellow-billed Oxpecker, native to the savannah of Sub-Saharan Africa, uses its bill to scissor through the mammal's coat and eat ticks and insects. They even clean dead skin off wounds and go inside the mammals' ears. With long legs and sharp claws, these birds can even move upside-down across their host's coat.

Indian-inspired cuisine is a top favourite throughout South Africa. In Cape Town, on Kloof Street, you'll find Thali, a standout restaurant since 2016. Led by Liam Tomlin and his team, Thali creates layers of flavour in each course. Plates arrive as gleaming platters featuring a variety of dishes, condiments, sauces, and breads, all freshly made in-house daily. The menu progresses from milder, lighter finger foods to spicier, more substantial curries. The char from their coal oven, the masterful blending of spices, and the meticulous preparation overseen by Chef Nathanael (Nate) Coe make dining at Thali a truly immersive experience.

Sujay Sanan was born and raised in India, but now lives in Cape Town. When you zoom in to his artwork, you'll see all the detailed life-cycles of the African animals.

"My space of slow exploration for the last 10 years has been a small part of the southernmost tip of Africa - home to the world's smallest biome. The fragility of the life-cycles and the depths of interconnectedness that I have been able to witness in this region - from flies and shrubs to kelp and orcas - have compelled my artistic production. I seek to record what we may lose and have already lost in this swiftly transforming human-centred planet. The lilac-breasted roller is one of the most vibrant and exquisite birds you can encounter. This African bird is widely distributed across Southern and Eastern Africa.
