This winter has felt particularly hard. For the farmers with flooded crops, rain/storm damage and stunted growth from the cold. It's easy to see and grasp nature's physical reponse to the weather. From the conversations we are having with our customers and community, it seems everyone has been feeling a little stunted and bogged down. Let's not forget that we ARE a part of nature, we ARE enduring the same weather as the plants, crops, orchards, dams and rivers... that it impacts us and our state of being just as much. We have the option to find shelter, yes, but that doesn't mean our senses are fooled and are not now feeling cooped up and "watching the world go by" whilst we go on with our daily life. Feeling perhaps confused and more and more disconnected from Nature. This weather will pass, the rain and wind will stop and we will be able to go outside and breathe in the sun and blue skies again. Let's remember though to do just that - to go and sink our feet into the wet soil and be grateful that we can appreciate it all and that we are not just witnessing it, but that we are a part of it.

Don't you just love Aubergine? Brinjals are blossoming and growing - it is officially their season at Metro Organics! Pop in - they are on special this week, to celebrate their abundance!

Our Noordhoek store was looking luscious yesterday and will be throughout the festive season! A delicious array of organic fruits and vegetables and also Flowers from the wonderful ! Is everyone else as flabbergasted as we are that the end of year is marching so undeniably solidly towards us? We are excited for this festive season as our farmers are pumping out all the goodness! Pop in at either of our stores and Nursery before the year is out, we are eagerly awaiting you!

The Food Nursery at the farm is Loving the cool weather this morning!!! Full of fresh beautiful seedlings to plant in the veggie gardens of all our locals who love to grow their own food! If you haven't yet been, pop around to the farm and pay us a visit! The Nursery and farm are open from 9am to 16h00 Monday to Friday and 9am to 12midday on Saturday mornings. Veg and herb starts, at R3 each, make growing your own (even as a beginner) an affordable experience. We truly believe in people growing their own food. It is a vital part of who we are and to not know the gift of what growing your own food brings, is simply missing out. Container gardening is possible if you don't have a garden. Make a garden wherever you go and you will be all the happier (and healthier) for it!

Micogreens!!!! A simple and DELICIOUS way to get your greens in! These micro veggies or mini greens can contain up to 9 times the concentration of nutrients compared to their matured veg form.

We have an AMAZING range of Microgreens in both our stores sourced from 3 different growers Jenna, Gareth and Teresa!

Wether it be Broccoli Microgreens, Mixed Microgreens, Radish, Kohlrabi, Alfalfa or Sunflower shoots we've got you covered!

What would the health benefits be? Well we would answer "too many to list" but to give you some information on just the Broccoli Micros in particular...; Cancer Prevention, Improved Bone Health, Lowering Cholesterol, Balancing Sugar Levels, Reducing Inflammation, Weight Loss, Improved Eye Health, Energy, Endurance, Digestion, Gut Health and general Immunity... and the list goes on. Anyone for lettuce? Our salad greens are unbelievably fresh. They are harvested daily, rinsed, spun out, packaged and delivered to our retail stores or wholesale customers.
We believe in giving our greens healthy soil to grow in with as much nutrient variety in our compost and inputs as possible to in turn give you a nutrient dense meal! Some say they can taste it!

Absolute heaven! The yellow cling peaches from we have in both our stores at the moment are truly delicious! Sweet and so very satisfying. If you like a peach you'll love these yellow cling!

We are very happy to be closing for a few days this year to give our incredible staff a few days respite over what is a very busy season for many. Please bear with us over this time we are truly grateful!

Our Kendal Rd store is brimming with goodness. So excited to see all the summer colour! We've got some delicious goodies in store, for the sweet teeth out there too. If you want to treat yourself, or your family and friends, then any of the treats we are now stocking from is almost certainly the answer. Without a doubt. They also have an insanely good Christmas range but more on this brand soon. As they need a proper introduction!

We have some really tasty goodies at both our stores. The apricots are insanely good... Just saying...

For those cursing the stormy weather... please don't! Rather smile and show your gratitude considering how much we've needed the rain. Remember how much we, the farmers, are so desperately happy to see our soil wet after the heat and the difficulty irrigation has been with loadshedding. We and the plants are singing and dancing today!

From left to right we've got; Lettuce beds, Cabbage, Beetroot, Broccoli and Cauliflower. How gorgeous do these Brassica leaves look? Spotted some Cabbage Moth caterpillars whilst walking past and just plucked the visible ones off. The health of these plants will withstand most pests anyway.

It's starting to feel like Summer again with the beginnings of summer crops like Zucchini, peppers, tomatoes and green beans peeping through in our shops. Yay! This is what healthy shopping dreams are made of.

We're harvesting potatoes at the farm at the moment! They are looking gorgeous!
Probably one of the most satisfying things to harvest! A little like digging for buried treasures!
We LOVE potato in our family! I'm sure we're not alone!

Obey proudly showing off his Beautiful Broccoli! That smile says it all... there is something very rewarding about growing brassicas.
Everyone loves Broccoli, right? Well we do!

After almost 6 years of farming this land, we decided an upgrade on it's entrance was necessary.
Big trucks can now get inside the farm as we've widened the entrance somewhat, which helps things tremendously!
Graham and Kelvin got busy building this new gate and the team have been very busy putting in the new fence. We love it! What do you think?

It's officially Spring on Friday the 23rd of September this year but some like to celebrate today, the 1st of September, as "Spring Day". So, in keeping with the festive feel, the Food Nursery at Metro Organics Farm is stocking up and getting ready for its official re-opening to help accompany you and your Grow Your Own gardening projects at home. Stacey from will be there on Wednesday and Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings from the 10th of September onwards.
