It is with sadness that I have to inform you that Kåre Hanken has passed away last week. He has touched the lives of so many of us and his absence will be surely noticed.

We will honour him in a tribute concert at the Bishop's Memorial Chapel in Rondebosch on Saturday 11 August. Please join us in celebrating the life of this exceptional man.

Dear Fellow Conductors,

I have recently attended a meeting with Erik Dippenaar and Kåre Hanken finalizing the arrangements for the opening concert, St. John’s Passion, which will be performed by The Cape Soloists Choir and Camerata Tinta Barocca – conducted by the maestro himself. As I listened to them put together what promises to be a most rewarding experience, I could not help but get excited for the wonderful program we have planned for you.

All has not been easy sailing though, and I am sad to inform you that Capella Amsterdam and Daniel Reuss had to postpone their visit to South Africa owing to a lack of funding, which means that we will have to catch them next year. The change to the proposed schedule, however, has opened up new possibilities and I am filled with huge excitement when I anticipate how much you are going to enjoy the amended program. Considering suggestions from the 2014 seminar you can now look forward to witness Zimfira Poloz demonstrate how to teach new music to your choir – from scratch; Antoinette Blyth and members of the Cape Soloists Choir will talk and demonstrate how to design effective vocal warm-ups for your choir; Paul Loeb van Zuilenburg will talk about the business side of the arts and show you how to become a pro project manager, marketer, and entrepreneur; Erik Dippenaar and Kåre Hanken will share their secrets with you and demonstrate how to work with your soloists and choir when teaching them Baroque choral music.

This is not all, we have decided to form a seminar choir, the Cape Town Capella, which will allow 16 passionate singers the opportunity to sing with the Cape Soloists Choir and perform selected repertoire with them at the final concert! Choristers will be naturally be expected to study the music beforehand - to be able to sing it in masterclasses and workshops with Kåre Hanken. It is ideal for the participant who would like to be part of the experience but does not want to conduct in masterclasses. If you are interested, please register at the following link:
