Please be informed that Vas&Co Spices will no longer be trading at The Shongweni Farmers & Craft Market. We are truly grateful to the owners, staff, fellow traders and patrons for their support over the last 2-3 years whilst we built on our idea/concept.
And now, we are ready to take our business to the next level. Over the next few months we will be setting up National and International Drop Shipping platforms and will be focusing on an interactive online store for your convenience. A food sales concept may also be on the horizon.

Durban Tourism Business Awards 2023 The purpose of the awards are: To reward people who deliver excellence in tourism in Durban. To give the public a voice that counts in terms of the feedback/review they give.

Today is the 108th birth anniversary of Sarla Thukral, the first Indian woman pilot to fly an aircraft at the age of 21. She was born on 8th August, 1914. She was married at 16 and had a 4-year-old daughter when she flew a gypsy moth solo at 21 years. Her husband Captain PD Sharma, also a pilot, encouraged her and motivated her. PD Sharma happens to be the first Indian to attain his airmail pilot's license.

"At age 21, dressed in a traditional sari, she stepped into the cockpit of a small double-winged plane for her first solo flight," Google elaborated while showcasing a doodle last year.

Sarla Thukral attained her 'A' license after accumulating 1,000 plus flying hours. After nine years of marriage, she became a widow. Captain Sharma died in an airplane crash in 1939. Sarla applied for commercial pilot license for a job in this sector, but in vain due to the ongoing World War II. She then studied fine arts at Lahore and started earning to raise her child and to run herself. She became a painter.

After the Partition of India, she shifted base to Delhi where she met RP Thakral. They were married in 1948.

Sarla Thukral became a successful entrepreneur. She breathed her last in 2008.
