On 24 September South Africans celebrate the rich and diverse cultural wealth of this beautiful country.

September is Heart Awareness Month aims to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease in South Africa. Eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly and understand the risk factors such as smoking, drinking, taking drugs, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity and stress.

The first week in September focuses on the function and health of kidneys during National Kidney Awareness Week. The most common causes of kidney disease in South Africa are diabetes, hypertension and HIV. Other risk factors include obesity, smoking, and a family history of kidney disease. There are no symptoms in the early stages of kidney disease, so it is important to get regular check ups.

World Vitiligo Day was established in 2011 to raise awareness and provide support for individuals with Vitiligo. Vitiligo is an autoimmune condition that occurs in 1 - 2% of the population around the world.

June is Men's Health Month, highlighting the importance of the health and wellness of boys and men, and raise awareness about preventable health problems, as well as encourage early detection and treatment of disease.

High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, is the number one risk factor for heart disease, stroke, renal complications, and premature death. World Hypertension Day is observed on May 17 every year to raise awareness about hypertension, its consequences, and preventive measures.
