While it is important to remember that a gate operator should not be relied upon as the sole security measure, it is evident that having one can contribute to bolstering the security of your property.
The Ultima Sliding Gate Operator elevates the security of one’s home with its array of selectable security features, these include:
• Ambush Alarm
When the gate is in the process of opening or is fully open, the Ambush Alarm feature will activate the alarm output if the safety beams remain obstructed beyond the programmed time. This situation may arise if someone, such as an intruder, deliberately blocks the safety beams to prevent the gate from closing after a homeowner has entered or exited the property.
• Break In Alarm
When this function is activated, it will immediately trigger the alarm output if any of the safety beams are obstructed while the gate is in the closed position. This effectively gives the safety beams a functionality similar to that of Perimeter Beams.
• Tamper Alarm
If enabled, this function will activate alarm output if the gate operator’s lid is lifted/opened. This feature is only available on operators where the optional tamper switch has been installed.
• Gate Open Alarm
When activated, this function will trigger the alarm output if the gate remains in the open position for a duration exceeding the programmed time. This alert serves to notify the homeowner when the gate is unintentionally left open or unable to close, which may be due to a malfunction or obstruction.
• Securi-Lock
If enabled, this function will activate the alarm output if the gate is forced open while in the closed position.
• Security Lighting
This comprises several useful features, such as the Courtesy Light function that activates pillar lights when the gate is triggered, the Flash on Movement feature that causes the connected light to flash while the gate is in motion, and the Pre-close and Pre-open Flash feature that flashes the connected light to signal approaching vehicles and pedestrians of the gate's impending movement.

Which battery is right for your gate motor?
There are three main types of batteries on the market for domestic gate operators: AGM (commonly referred to as Lead Acid batteries or SLA batteries), Gel batteries and Lithium-iron batteries. Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages, so it's important to choose the right one for your needs.

AGM (Lead-Acid) batteries are cheaper than Gel and Lithium-ion batteries and are able to deliver high start up currents to get the gate moving. These batteries have been used in gate operators for many years and most charging circuits were originally designed to charge this type of battery.

Gel batteries are similar to AGM batteries but contain a gel inside which allows for a more constant discharge current. This makes them a good choice for gate operators that are used frequently. However, they may not be able to handle the peak current demands of very heavy gates.

Lithium-ion batteries are a newer type of battery which are becoming increasingly popular for gate operators. They are lighter and more compact than Lead-Acid batteries and have a longer lifespan. However, they can be more expensive and may not be able to deliver the same peak current as Lead-Acid batteries.

When choosing a battery for your gate operator it is important to consider the size of your gate, the frequency of use and your budget. If you have a large gate that is used frequently you will need a battery with a large capacity. If you are on a budget then an AGM battery will be a good option. However, if you use your gate more frequently, then a Gel battery may be a better choice.

When considering a Lithium-ion battery for your domestic gate operator, ensure that its maximum discharge current exceeds 10A and the continuous discharge current is at least 8A. These specs are available on each battery and are important to determine if the battery can handle the demands of your gate motor.

As standard 24V 3.5Ah batteries are at a higher risk of suffering damage during loadshedding, due to repetitive deep discharge cycles, they frequently need to be replaced. These are costly to replace and not readiliy available.
