Woodhaven Pre-Primary School

To the fearless captain of our ship... May you sail the seas of Woodhaven bravely and keep us floating as you have always done since you took over the helm.

Rules, discipline and boundaries are all GOOD things, and a necessary ingredient in raising regulated, genuine, and considerate children.

There is often a misconception that boundaries and rules restrict a child. The sand tray beach scene pictured in this post is proof that this is not the case. In fact, boundaries and rules can often help to foster a child's imagination and overall ability, as they feel safe and loved.

There are very few rules in The Courage Room. However, one such rule is "no water in the sand tray". I'm sure you can imagine how many children see the sand, long to create an ocean scene, and desperately try to twist my arm. I stand firm, as that is the rule.

Pictured is an exact example of this - a little girl tried numerous avenues to convince me to use water in the sand tray. After a few failed attempts, she came up with this idea (all by herself) to use a little tub. She even added bubbles for the "real ocean effect".

At the end of this activity, she was SO proud of herself, and made sure to say numerous times, "You see Jess, we didn't even need to add the water! I came up with a much better idea anyway!"

Please instill rules, boundaries, and discipline within your home; it leads to a greater sense of safety, happiness, and love within your children.
