Gompo Welfare Society for the Aged
Enable the elderly to enjoy active, healthy & independent living.
While providing personal care services to the frail in their homes to promote, restore & maintain maximum levels of confort, function, dignity & health.
Happy mothers day to all grandmothers over 60 year. We sure trust you were not forgotten this day"❤️❤️❤️
What a day, the realization that covid 19 has deprived older persons of their livelihood. We had to chase them away at the end of their huge feast 🤣😂🤣
As I was going through donations for our charity shop, I came across an envelope or rather an envelope I thought was empty and as I was to put it in the rubbish I found it strange than it was closed and tore it open. It was R300 that got in the donation package by mistake and it will find its way back to our donors.
We have neglected our presence on Social mediia, though we have quite been busy on the ground.
Due to Covid 19, Our Centres nave been closed to protect older persons. We have been visiting them at their homes and thought a vegetable hamper would bring a smile to their faces and given the time of th month, the hamper came at th
2020 memories. 2021,bring it on. Let tnis year bring us good and better things
Gompo Welfare for the Aged is an old organization with unrealized wealth in it's 26 years of existence. We have about six quality built properties that are standing and in solid condition even though they been neglected since its inception.
have a community of older persons that suffer ills of the community and are not able to come to our service centres as often as we would like them to due to lack of basic resources such as food for the 2 meals they get a day.
have underpaid personnel who have found their passion to serve older persons on a day to day bases, under new management even though they go for months at time without pay, for example we were paid in September for April to July salaries and in November for August to October and still crossing fingers that we get paid to enjoy Xmas with our families. Unending motivation is required to keep everyone encouraged, even the new Manager who does the motivation.
We are looking for individuals and companies willing to support Gompo Welfare for the Aged in kind or financial contibutions so that the organisation could again find its intended purpose, vision and mission. People that may help strengthen governance and basic necessary compliance systems of an organization.
Please do inbox me if you would like to be a part of the rebuilding Gompo Welfare for the Aged, thereby contributing to the well-being of older persons of Duncan Village, Mdantsane and Buffalo City as a whole, when our resources eventually allow us to do so.
Tomorrow Gompo Welfare Society for the Aged is closing its doors for holidays and we will reopen in January 2021 for business.
We may not have had older persons at our Cetres due to C19, but, we did more than we have had in a long time:-
reached out to older persons in their homes
like never before with the homebound and frail, with intent and purpose
with the most challenging and somehow funny and kind of dangerous element of grant administration, where families members and other community members take advantage of older persons and exploit them for their grants.
and governance continue to be a challenge due to years of neglect but we now can see the horison.
for 2021 is mandatory as more challenges and ventures await us in 2021.
Complements of the season to all in the NGO Sector.
Gompo Welfare was previlaged to be part of the distribution of food parcels with The Seed Development organization, made possible by The Gift of the Givers, MBCSA and Dunlop for the Duncan Village and Mdantsane communities.
Some 470 families benefited from this initiative with 420 parcels donated by MBCSA and 50 by Dunlop. You have made a difference to poor families, Nangomso, Sibulela ngokungazenzisiyo.

Many thanks to Kholeka Ncanywa and her colleagues from Buffalo City for their donations. It is such a pity that the Elderly were not able to receive them due to yesterday's weather.
A good end to a week. We greatly appreciate the support and donations received from a good friend Kholeka Ncanywa and her colleagues from Buffalo City. It is just a pity that the weather(rain) did not allow for the Elderly to come to the Service Centre yesterday to receive thier donations.
Each week more & more elder persons are joining our Day Service Centers.
Your support with food of food vouchers will be appreciated.
Our objective is to enable older persons to enjoy Active, Healthy & Independent living, through the creation of an enabling and supportive environment, that ensures that older persons receive services that respond to their needs.
The organisation also provide personal care services to frail older persons in their homes, so as to restore & maintain older person's maximum levels of confort, function & health.
We have 5 Service Centers around Duncan Village and our centers have a capacity to accommodate older persons from 50 to 100 per day. In total we have the capacity to work with 300 or more older persons per day in the Gompo and Duncan Village communities.
Do watch out for pictures/videos of activities and news, developments and requests from the organisation or individual centre or program for your support and encouragement.
Golden Games 2019. We had a few weeks to prepare and did very well. New Management is changing things around. All the activities of the Golden Games should be daily activities of Senior citizens and a such as we opened our centres this February, we are starting our Golden games activities as our daily exercises. Looking back to 2019, and again extending our gratitude to Khunjulwa Foundation for a surprising Xmas Party for the Elderly Citizens of Duncan Village under Gompo Welfare Society for the Aged.
This organisation has 5 centres situated around Duncan Village to provide a safe space and sanctuary for senior citizens. We desperately need a hand to keep them open 5 days a week, providing them with 2 meals a day so that they have the energy to do their daily activities at the centers.
We are also proviting assistance to those that are bed ridden or unable to walk to the centers, through our Caregicers who visit them weekly at their homes to see to their hygiene, exercise and health needs including fetching their treatment from the clinic.
Our Social Work staff is at their back and call ahd our drive for 2020 is to fight the misuse of their grants by family members and community members. We will leave no stone unturned and do the best we can to ensure that their grant provide for their basic needs.
How can you support us in this endeavor? Your donations of food, vegetables and fruit would help us to keep our doors open 5 days a week. We alternate porridge with oates for breakfast and they have a full meal for lunch. Tea or coffee is served as well. So anything from rice, samp, mealie meal, sugar, flour, oates, powdered milk, tea, coffee, rooibos, frozen vegetables, fresh vegetables, fruit, canned fish. We would not say no to meat(chicken) as they love their meat.
