The Maxitec server room and fibre infrastructure is currently being powered by diesel generators. Some of the smaller high sites may experience outages after backup batteries are depleted. We will recharge batteries at head office and endeavour to get sites up as soon as possible. We will try and keep everything up during normal business hours. This is a major power outage affecting large parts of the Overstrand. We thank you for your understanding.

Carl-Heinz Conradie recently joined Ron Holloway and Jurie Steenekamp as an equal shareholder and partner at MAXITEC, marking a significant milestone in his nearly 18-year career with the company.

Over the years, Carl has been deeply involved in all aspects of the business. After earning his B.Sc. Degree in Computer Science from UNISA, he took on key responsibilities in Server Administration and the development of Managed Hosting Services.

An avid programmer, Carl also collaborates closely with Ron on custom software development projects. His dedication has been instrumental to MAXITEC's success and growth.

The latest feedback from Openserve is that an automatic switchover that starts the backup generator is faulty resulting in backup batteries getting depleted. Openserve expect the replacement parts to be installed later today (Friday).

Our national service provider, OpenServe, are currently having difficulties with their power generation/capacity in the Overstrand area resulting in outages related to load shedding. We are in constant communication with Openserve and they are working on the problem. Openserve have promised to communicate more information to us later in the day and we will post feedback here.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused and want to assure our valued customers that we are doing everything to restore the level of service expected.

Openserve Power Issues
We are still waiting for feedback from Openserver regarding the power issues during load shedding. There was another outage during the early morning load shedding and it's possible that we will once again have an outage between 10h00 and 12h00. We apologise for this inconvenience and we hope Openserver can come to the party and do what they should.

We are seeing networks coming back online. We assume an issue with Openserve backup power. Really sad when you spend good money to ensure your systems remain online only to be dropped by the national providers.

We are currently experiencing a regional Openserve outage affecting multiple providers probably related to load shedding. We will update here once we know more.

Dear Valued Friends and Customers,

We want to extend our sincerest apologies for the recent disruption in our services. A cable break in our Metro Fibre Service caused a disruption that affected some of our connectivity, web hosting, and email services.

Thanks to the dedicated efforts of our technicians and partners the fibre break was repaired and services were restored by 19h47 on Tuesday 17 October, 2023. A short downtime was experienced the following day, when the cable was replaced by the Infrastructure Provider.

Your understanding and patience during this time are greatly appreciated. We know how crucial these services are for your daily routines and businesses, and we're committed to finding solutions to better mitigate outages such as these in the future.

The link has finally been restored. The problems in the last two days was due to a cable break on an Openserve link and out of our control. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Emergency maintenance:
15:15 The Openserve maintenance is taking longer than anticipated. The outage was not planned and if we could give any additional warning we would. Thank you for your patience and understanding. We feel your pain.

13:50 Openserve have started the final splice. Some services will be offline for a few minutes.

12:21 We will have one more outage lasting about 45 minutes some time in the next two hours. We will try and give advanced warning.

11:49 The spicing has started. Some services, email, wireless and lightstruck will be offline for about an hour.

Openserve are now onsite to replace the defective fibre cable. They are going to try and keep the downtime to a minimum. We will update this post with details as they become available. We thank you for your patience and understanding.

20:00 Openserve have just completed a temporary splice and will replace a large section of fibre cable tomorrow. This will be an emergency planned outage that will probably last another hour. We will update once we have more details. Thank you for your patience.

17:06 Openserve technicians are on site and down the man holes. We hope the issue will be resolved in the next hour or two.

13:38 Openserve technicians have localised the cable break fault and are busy restoring the service.

10h48 We are still waiting for feedback from Openserve regarding the outage. We will post updates here as soon as we get them. The outage affects all services including hosting, email, wireless and lightstruck.

We are currently experiencing a major outage on the Openserve link to Cape Town. We are waiting for feedback from Openserve and will provide updates as they come in. We apologise for the inconvenience.

A fibre network outage affecting certain clients in Hermanus and Kleinmond has been reported. Service Providers are aware of the problem and technicians are working to resolve the issue.

No estimated time for restoration at the moment. We will post more details as they come in.

The Openserve issue in Hermanus has been resolved. We are seeing customers connecting again and our data centre link has been switched from the backup to the primary link. We thank you for your patience during the outage.

Attention Hermanus residents:

The Fibre outage affecting certain clients in the area is still ongoing, with technicians actively working to resolve the issue. Unfortunately, we do not have an estimated time for restoration at this moment.

Some Openserve customers are still not online. Openserve are working on the problem which is hardware related. Our network is currently routed via a backup link and speeds will be slower than usual until the problem has been resolved. We thank you for your patience.

We have logged an urgent fault with Openserve regarding the outages related to load shedding.

Internet Outage:
Our link to Cape Town went down for 26 minutes and came back up shortly after load shedding ended at 22h00. All indications are that it was an Openserve outage. We will update with any more information should we get any the wiser.

All services have been restored. No word yet from ESKOM regarding the outage. Africa!

We are setting up gensets and getting fresh batteries to sites affected by extended power outage. ETR 1 hour.

Power outage. We are now in day three.

Our after hours phone support is currently unavailable as we are running around at the moment keeping the lights on.

- Our core infrastructure is up and will remain up as long as diesel is available.
- Two smaller POPs in town, ASCCA and CND are currently down and we are busy replacing batteries. ETR 2 hours.

All services at Maxitec are up. Our backup batteries are not always able to recover and fully charge after successive long outages and our swop out batteries are also still not fully charged. We appreciate your understanding during these pressing times.

8:05 Rotary way services restored.

7:26 Rotary Way high site has just gone offline. The batteries are depleted after yesterday's long outage. The service should be restored when Eskom power comes back on. Our spare batteries are still charging. We apologise for the inconvenience in these difficult times.

17:56 Lightstruck service has been restored.

17:45 Lightstruck in Hermanus have an outage. We have spoken to Lightstruck and they say they are aware of the problem and are attending. No ETA to restoration.
