The life cycle of a house
The Founder; Renier Combrinck started his construction business in 1997 and struggled to find people who could do the work properly, so he decided to start his own training programme. Taking up residence in the Harvest Centre at the harbour, he renovated the space and over the last three years has seen interest grow in his concept.
Renier also found that short courses are not effective. Students also do not get the opportunity to do practical application of what they've learned in the course. He also said that you need to teach people some theory and then take them to sites where they can see the actual work for themselves.
This programme starts with teaching life skills, specifically how to operate in the business world. Computer skills, marketing, client liaison and more, the candidates will be taught about. They will also be exposed to the physical building process during this time while learning the discipline that is required in the construction industry. They will be assessed during this first year and then guided to their area of interest, in the second year. Where they will learn how to become an artisan in that field and/or creating their own business or finding a job where we can provide a reference and support system for them.
Selection of unskilled young people and school-leavers between 18 and 35 are chosen because of the lack of opportunities for them currently. And this has to change and give them the opportunely to see the brighter side in life. Many come from dysfunctional family situations where parents are to busy trying to survive that they do not get a chance to teach their kids how to be a part of the business world and society. Where as some candidates do not even have parents. So structure, support and discipline will also be give to the candidates.
