Rachel offers services as a Personal Trainer, Biokineticist and Wellness Coach.

βI am a qualified Biokineticist, with a four-year degree in Biokinetics from the University of Johannesburg and Iβm working towards obtaining my Masterβs in Biokinetics from UJ. I have an HFPA (Health and Fitness Professionals Academy) certificate in sports massage.
Middle and long-distance running has always been one of my passions and running competitively is something I love to do.
These competitive sporting experiences, along with various related injuries, have given me an in-depth knowledge of my bodyβs limits and capabilities, and this is something I draw on to better assist in helping my clients heal.
I love interacting with people of all ages, from seniors to young adults and children. I believe that understanding your body and what works for you is the first step to preventing injuries. We are all unique and thatβs why I prefer to work on a case-by-case basis to understand each person on an individual level, whether they are an athlete or not, and work out the best methods for helping my clients get stronger, fitter or just healthier overall.β

Pre event sports massage can help ease acute pains, increase overall blood circulation, loosen muscles improve range of movement, and allow waste products from training to be flush out of the muscles leaving muscles feeling fresh for the race.
Post event sports massage assists with recovery, reduce competition stiffness or pain, increase new blood flow to the area and improve range of movement, pretty much the same although your body may be a bit stiffer after the race βΊππ

It's Friday! πββοΈπ and we have the weekend ahead of us, let's be grateful for all that we have.
Lacking stability? π€
When we lack stability around a joint it begins a spiral effect, causing the muscles around that joint to tighten up and lose mobility/flexibility, as this is a way the body protects those joints from being injured.
Lacking stability can mean lacking strength of the tendons, ligaments and muscles around that joint. This can be caused by a sedentary lifestyle, doing too much of the same activity or not stretching and strengthening the muscles/tendons/ligaments around that specific joint enough.
I often see people lacking stability around the foot joint, hips and lumbar area and this leads to tightness in the calves, shins, quads, hamstrings and back.
Stretching is good, but it is not always the answer. Some of these muscles need to be activated by specific exercises in order for them to function optimally and create a stable support structure for your joints.
