Did you know that:

MORINGA HELPS ASTHMA!?

Asthma is a chronic condition that affects the airways. It causes wheezing and can make it hard to breathe. Some triggers include exposure to an allergen or irritant, viruses, exercise, and emotional stress.

A study, titled, “Investigation into the mechanism of action of Moringa Oleifera for its anti-asthmatic activity” concluded that Moringa has 4 important anti-asthma benefits:

1. Broncodilator:
Moringa dilates the bronchi and bronchioles, increasing airflow to the lungs by decreasing resistance in the respiratory airway.

2. Mast Cell Stabilization: Moringa helps control allergic disorders by blocking the release of histamine.

3.Anti-Inflammatory: Moringa possesses potent anti-inflammatory activity, comparable to that of pharmaceutical drug “Diclofenac Sodium” also known as “Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs”, but again without any of the potentially severe negative side effects.

4. Anti-Microbial: Symptoms of breathlessness are sometimes signs of bronchial infection. Moringa Oleifera possesses potent anti-microbial activity when tested against various respiratory pathogens.

Although Moringa seed extract was used for this study, it was noted that a extract of Moringa leaves should posses many of the same benefits.

We’re not only here to tell you that moringa helps beat cholesterol, which research claims it does- we’re here to EDUCATE you and impart valuable knowledge.😊♥️

* What is Cholesterol?*

Now cholesterol is not inherently “bad.” Your body needs it to build cells and make vitamins and other hormones. But too much cholesterol can pose a problem.

Cholesterol comes from two sources. Your liver makes all the cholesterol you need. The remainder of the cholesterol in your body comes from foods from animals. For example, meat, poultry and dairy products all contain dietary cholesterol.

Those same foods are high in saturated and trans fats. These fats cause your liver to make more cholesterol than it otherwise would. For some people, this added production means they go from a normal cholesterol level to one that’s unhealthy.

Some tropical oils – such as palm oil, palm kernel oil and coconut oil – contain saturated fat that can increase bad cholesterol. These oils are often found in baked goods.

*Why Cholesterol Matters*

Cholesterol circulates in the blood. As the amount of cholesterol in your blood increases, so does the risk to your health. High cholesterol contributes to a higher risk of cardiovascular diseases, such as heart disease and stroke. That’s why it’s important to have your cholesterol tested, so you can know your levels.

The two types of cholesterol are: LDL cholesterol, which is bad, and HDL, which is good. Too much of the bad kind, or not enough of the good kind, increases the risk cholesterol will slowly build up in the inner walls of the arteries that feed the heart and brain.

When it comes to cholesterol, remember: check, change and control. That is:

Check your cholesterol levels. It’s key to know your numbers and assess your risk.
Change your diet and lifestyle to help improve your levels.
Control your cholesterol by eating healthily, exercising and quitting smoking if needed.

High cholesterol is one of the major controllable risk factors for coronary heart disease, heart attack and stroke.

From all of us at Moringa Health! Happy Easter! 🐰🥚

14/04/2022

This Easter season, we remember that:

The average South African can barely afford a loaf of bread.

Roughly 13.8 million South Africans live below the ‘extreme poverty line’ calculated at approximately R21 ($1.43) a day. A loaf of bread in SA costs anything from R16 to R22.

But there is HOPE!

Many foreign aid and charity organizations have been using moringa for years to combat malnutrition in developing countries.

Moringa Oleifera in Malnutrition: A Comprehensive Review

Nutritional deficiency is a major concern in developing countries, resulting in serious health consequences like mental and physical growth retardation. Moringa oleifera (Moringa), a nutritious plant growing in tropical regions of developing countries, is a candidate for overcoming nutritional deficiency. Moringa leaves are rich in protein including sulphur containing amino acids. It contains high amounts of vitamin C than oranges, a higher concentration of vitamin A than carrots, higher calcium content than milk and more potassium than bananas. Moreover, there is 9 times more iron in moringa than spinach and 4 times more fiber than oats. This review enlightens and explores the nutritional diversification of Moringa oleifera and other benefits which make it a better choice to use in our daily diet to combat malnutrition.

What is Moringa?

Moringa is a herb which has been used for centuries for its amazing health benefits. It is obtained from the trees of Moringa Oleifera, native to Africa and Asia. Moringa is commonly used as a powder in drinks and food and as an oil in many skincare products such as skin lotions, perfumes, hair creams, conditioners and shampoos.

Moringa is also included in massage oils as it is absorbed easily. This makes your skin soft and smooth.

Experts call it a jack of all trades plant because it is packed with the goodness of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and moisturizing fatty acids. All this makes moringa very effective when it comes to skincare!

Kids love jam- fact! But here’s to making every snack healthy- sprinkle some moringa in there! 2 birds, 1 stone!🤤🌿

🍇

Also a banana and yoghurt lover?🤤
Research studies claim that moringa has 15 times more potassium than bananas!

Sprinkle it on your fruit salad and cereal. Have it with your tea this morning!

06/04/2022

Yup, moringa contains 7 times more Vitamin C than oranges!

WHY DO WE NEED VITAMIN C?

Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, has a wide variety of uses in the body. It helps to slow down or prevent cell damage. It is needed to keep body tissues and the immune system healthy. Vitamin C also helps the body absorb iron from plant foods and is great for the skin too, preventing aging and rough skin.

WHAT HAPPENS IF WE DO NOT GET ENOUGH VITAMIN C?

Vitamin C is found in many foods we eat and deficiency is rare. Scurvy, the disease caused by vitamin C deficiency, was common generations ago. Seamen who lived at sea for months at a time and ate no fresh fruits or vegetables often got scurvy. Today, scurvy is rare in the US, but not getting enough vitamin C may lead to anemia, bleeding gums, infections, dry and splitting hair, and poor wound healing.

HOW MUCH VITAMIN C DO WE NEED?

Men need about 90mg a day, whilst women need about 70mg a day. People who smoke need an additional 35 milligrams of vitamin C every day. Three large strawberries provide 33 milligrams of vitamin C.

HOW CAN WE GET ENOUGH VITAMIN C?

The best way to get enough vitamin C is by eating foods high in this vitamin *rather than taking supplements.* Fruits and vegetables are the best sources. Rich sources of vitamin C include citrus fruits and citrus fruit juices, cooked or ground moringa, sweet peppers, papayas and strawberries.
