Introducing “Molar Bear King” of the week!

This trooper from out of town had been having issues with his front teeth for years! Time and again the lovely dentists of Yarn filled his teeth, until one day he wanted a change, he wanted more!

He decided to be the change he wanted to see!
And so he sought out a Molar Bear to help. We were happy to assist, and turned this frown upside down with some Crowns and composite bonding to restore that Majestic magnificence!

He cannot stop smiling now, what a joy!

Has your smile knocked you off your thrown? No Problem! We can help.

That time again Molar Bears, where we splash your feed with some drops of wisdom - coz sometimes we try to make it rain 👀

Sometimes a disturbance in the development of a Molar Bear causes their "tummy" (tooth body) to grow too big, at the expense of their "legs" (aka the roots) - and is identified as a phenomenon known as Taurodontism - and is named this as it resembles a bulls tooth!! 🦬🦬

It is best picked up on routine dental Xrays, and doesn't usually present symptomatically. Characteristically, it can be identified on an x-ray by noting an enlarged pulp/nerve chamber and shortened roots but gives an illusion of an elongated tooth!

Although it is a rare anomaly, it most commonly occurs in permanent molar teeth, but can affect adult and baby teeth!
The exact cause is relatively unknown, but it does have a genetic component, commonly caused by hormonal and genetic mutations during tooth development, and is associated with anomalies in enamel and other hard tissue formations, as well as certain syndromes - like Downs or Mohr Syndrome.

From a dentists perspective, we just have to give it special consideration and adapt our approach if the tooth requires a root canal, extraction or if it is to be part of a tooth replacement prosthesis 😇😇

Yello(w) Coffee Tanners!! (Get it😝)

The Molar Bear 🦷 has been watching ya’ll slurping those coffee freezo’s, mochachino’s, frappachino’s, bubble ice teas and all those other yummy summer drinks!

Just an FYI - extra cream won’t reduce the tooth tan! Summer colors are not stained teeth 👀👀

Bottom line: Forecast suggests SARS will be monitoring your coffee budget soon (after their travel pass announcement) so let’s keep that caffeine consumption limited and BRUSH YOUR PEARLS.

Mini Makeover Loading 😁😁

Our patient may not have as many titles as Charles III (ahem) BUT that smile is Royalty 👑🆒

We were tempted to put the Cullinan diamond in but Charles hasn’t been responding to our DM’s 😋😎jokes aside- it brings us great pleasure to see our patients leave our rooms renewed and full of confidence.

Are you feeling molar bear shy? Why not book a consultation and see how we can renew that summer smile!

Second in the series!!

This super scary predator literally has a dental conveyor belt system!

• A shark loses a tooth every time it has a meal.
• Sharks grow teeth in rows.
• Sharks do not “regrow” teeth, but rather a tooth behind the tooth lost moves forward and takes its place.
• Sharks teeth are covered in fluoride, which means they never get cavities! Lucky 🐠

Additionally “Shark teeth” is a term used for our lil’ Molar Bears whose permanent teeth start to come in before their baby teeth have come out!

Where our lil’ Molar Bears at?!

For the next 4 weeks- we will be sharing fun facts on animal molars! AND a cool story for kids (it starts with “once upon a time” so please parents- these are not facts!)

Our first drop is Gummy the Crocodile! This amazing (and terrifying animal) has a very cool dental routine 🦷

• Crocodiles don’t brush their teeth! The birds pick the bits of food and debris out of their teeth when their mouths are open (sounds like brushing to me 👀
• When a crocs teeth are old or decaying, crocs grow new teeth to replace the old!!
• A croc can go through almost 6000 teeth in its life time!

AND last but not least:

What do you call a dentist whose patient is a crocodile?

_CRAZY_😎

Happy Youth Day to our amazing Molar Bear Family and fellow South Africans.

1976 seems like a long time ago but inequality remains deeply entrenched within our communities.

This particular year, we at MBD urge you to teach your children their history. Let’s not ask a picture to speak a thousand words. Let us speak a thousand words about the picture.

Chapter 2 😜

Pregnancy Myth Busters! Time to throw out those old molar tales.

1. Dental Work isn’t safe during pregnancy.

Although it is advisable to have done in your 2nd trimester, Dental care during pregnancy is safe and encouraged. Mama’s to be are more susceptible to gum disease (pregnancy gingivitis) and other conditions.

2. X-rays are not safe

X-rays are vital in assisting with detecting dental issues such as hidden decay. With the advent of digital xrays the radiation is exposure is negligible!

3. A new addition = A lost tooth

Guys…. While pregnant woman will be impacted by calcium redistribution - there is no proof it leads to tooth loss.

4. Dental health isn’t important during pregnancy.

Dental health is extremely important especially during pregancy.

Pregnancy results in hormone changes with may affect your molar bears and gums which in turn affect your quality of life.

It is also extremely important to let us know if you are pregnant!!

Thinking of crazy myths you’ve heard? Share them in the comments below!

As we prepare to welcome the blessed day of Eid with all its celebrations, joys and blessings - not to mention all the lovely food that will become yummy in our tummy - we have to reflect on the past month of Ramadhaan! While we are excited to celebrate, we are deeply saddened that Ramadhaan will be over.

It has been the most peaceful, insightful and spiritually uplifting month and it will be sorely missed! 💔💔
Every year it never fails to humble us, make us thankful to Our Creator for all that He has blessed us with and make us better humans - even for a short while!

We must also remember those of our Human Brothers and Sisters - young and old, of all colors and types - around the world being oppressed, and pray for their Freedom, for while we enjoy life, they face obstacles we could never fathom in our worst nightmares! 🤲🏼🤲🏼

In true Molar Bear Spirit, a take home message:
"Be thankful for the teeth you have, some people don't have the luxury of a Molar Bear!"
That being said, give us a visit and let us help you Be Thankful!! 😁😁

Eid Mubarak 😁♥️🇵🇸

We have been asked about alternative dentistry and the path less taken many times!

Being the Holy Month of Ramadhaan, we were inspired to post some educational content that is both beneficial and Islamic!

The Miswaak - literally meaning "tooth cleaning stick" - is a great alternative to a toothbrush. It comes from a plant called Salvadora Persica, which is native to India, the Middle East and Africa!
Sticks from this plant are tapered on one end to a point where they fray into a brush-like form, and then used to clean teeth - in a similar way to a toothbrush!

It's round shape makes it perfect to perform the circular movements required, and it's benefits are wide ranging including being:

1. Antibacterial/fungal/viral/plaque properties - so it is a True Molar Bear Device, as it helps fight against Tooth Decay!

2. It also has anti-oxidant, analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties which help with Gum Disease!

3. For those doubters - it is mechanical and chemical in nature!!

Want to find out more - hit us up - don't feel swaak - Miswaak 👀👀😁😁

“CHAPTER ONE”

Calm down- we’re kid-ding 😜.

Pregnancy and Dental Health is quite simple and manageable.

1. Molar Bears, please don’t leave us guessing… Tell your dentist you’re pregnant!

2. The same applies to any medication or vitamins you are taking to aid your smooth pregnancy.

3. The second trimester is the best time to have a snooze in our chair 💤 and get those teeth pearly white for your post pregnancy photoshoot!

4. NB: Regular Oral Care!
• Routine dental care does not pose a risk to your pregnancy.
•Pregnancy Hormones morning sickness and acid reflux may lead to acid erosion, destruction of enamel and worsening of existing cavities.

5. Additionally, elevated pregnancy hormone levels may increase risk of gum disease, as they directly cause gum inflammation (Pregnancy Gingivitis).

So, all in all - please share your good news with MBD on (011) 482-1592 and let’s keep those pearls healthy 😎.

Fellow Molar Bears! KeDezemba is upon us and with Omicron knocking on the door, we thought we'd chat to you about how sometimes Molar Bears like to social distance 👀👀😂

Sometimes, when teeth erupt, they are too small in proportion to the size of your mouth. Thus, we find small gaps between our teeth, which may present as aesthetic nightmares. These are called Diastemas.

A proper assessment of the cause and size of the gaps are pivotal in proper and effective management.

As the saying goes: There are many ways to skin a cat. They are:

Ideally, Orthodontics in the form of conventional braces or clear "invisible" aligners are the way to go as no tooth structure is removed. This is the most conservative treatment on offer.

However, certain cases present with minute gaps, and may be corrected with the use of Veneers or Crowns- to give you that Red Carpet smile!!

For those Molar Bears whose piggy banks are low, it can also be done by use of bonding and composite restorations - although with time these do stain and tend to become aesthetically displeasing.

If your teeth are intent on social distancing and you wish to bring them closer, get in touch with us and let us help you “mind the gaps!” Ahem..

The Molar Bear Movement 🦷🐻‍❄👣

It's been a while fellow Molar Bears, we’ve been going a little crazy with load shedding and water cuts but gratefully still operational by the Grace of The Almighty!

Being the month of N(M)ovember and with all the stuff going on- we’ve opted to post on issues close to our heart! ♥️

Happy Movember and International Men’s Day. The Movember Movement focuses on raising awareness surrounding men’s health issues such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and su***de prevention. Additionally, it focuses on engaging on the above topics allowing us to participate in life-changing conversations (early detection, depression etc...)

November also hosts the ever anticipated “Black Friday”!!! So we ask our patients to please exercise caution with those 50% off sugary snacks AND impulse purchases!

The environment has never needed us more than it does today! Please acknowledge this.

Additionally, a great smile is worth far more than a discounted clothing item 🤪

Be part of the movement. Be part of the change!

Happy Fri-yay Molar Bears!!

A lil’ twist away from our recent info crazy with the kiddies (because parents have the double responsibility of not only looking after their kiddies molar bears but also their own).

This is a case of the missing Molar Bear and how we are working to replace it so the others won't feel lonely!

Our patient unfortunately had to lose a tooth due to an infected root canal ☹️

Together we decided to replace the tooth with an implant - which is a biocompatible titanium screw that integrates with bone! How cool??!! 😁😁A young fusion if you will!!

This case has doubled as a study for us due to slight lifting of the sinus floor in order to place the implant properly!

We used bone graft with Osseodensification principles, and by God's Grace - and a helping hand from - we were able to achieve it! You can almost see the cloud!! I 😁🌬🌬 (Inside dental joke on the effect graft makes when you densify it against the sinus floor)

We're only at the beginning of the process but still super excited and we promise to share it with you as we go along!! 😁🤲🏼🤙🏼✌🏼

Brace yourself for some Monday Afternoon Humour 😁 Get it?

What did the one tooth say to the other tooth on the rollercoaster?

Brace yourself. 😐😐😐😐😐😐

But jokes aside- Why did the yellow tooth not find the white tooth’s jokes funny?

Because he was already dead inside 😆😆

Seriously now! Say hello to our success story! Our super duper patient arrived, albeit frustrated with her smile. After a discussion on options, we decided our course of action would be to position which would assist with obtaining the perfect smile!

Fast forward 5 months later with a magnificent brightening procedure to finish off the perfect smile! Looks like we “Aligned” the end of her treatment perfectly to start the summer with the perfect insta smile!
